Sweet Pants Gettin? Speaker Nancy?s Panties in a Bunch!

Funny thing is they probably agree on most things concerning the environment. Pelosi just trying to maintain Alpha status.

The Green whatever is in doable and bat shit crazy, which makes sense - AOC is way too hot to not also be crazy.

Pelosi knows this. I think her responses are way more conciliatory than Alpha.

I actually do not think Pelosi wants the same things AOC wants.

I think the two are fundamentally different.

She flat out called it a dream. Pretty cunt move. Sounds like she was more civil in the later remarks on the topic though. I don't know any details on the 'deal'. I should probably check it out some time.

Pelosi has long been a voice on climate change. They have different approaches, sure. But I think they want the same thing.

I need to read up on the Green New Deal. I obviously think we need that sort of an effort. Hope she doesn't screw up any chance of making one happen.

Yes.

Pelosi was pretty harsh at first, hence the thread title.

Then she saw the wisdom in dialing it back to bit, hence
less Alpha the 2nd time around.

The bat shit crazy young socialist gal might just help get trump re-elected in 2020!

AOC. I'm glad someone is pushing something, but if it's easily dismissed as crazy, it will make it more difficult for someone else to push a different plan. I've only seem a few non-specific bullets so far though. Can't pass judgement. Don't know if Pelosi is being reasonable - but it's not a good sign.

Well one thing that confused me was AOC thinks that within 10 years we can make air travel obsolete…which seemed far fetched...until I realized she meant AIRPLANE travel would be obsolete.

We’ll still travel through the air, but instead of on polluting fossil fuel powered airplanes, we’ll be flying on the backs of unicorns who would be propelled by their own green rainbow farts-let not your heart be troubled, the green rainbow farts will still also have red and yellow and pink and purple and orange and blue.

And where will these unicorns come from, you ask?

Through the use of solar power and other green new technologies, we will convert polluting, methane farting cattle into clean, green rainbow farting unicorns (again, the green unicorn farts will still have all of the other colors of the rainbow).

Don’t get me wrong-back in my heyday I used to date chicks who were way crazier than this because they were hot. When they weren’t pissed off and trying to attack me with a lethal weapon, their insane rants were generally delightfully entertaining-what the fuck, why not, right?

reminds me of one of the funniest stories ive heard. this friend of my brother was telling him all this bat-shit crazy stuff his girlfriend would do and put him through. after liatening for a while, my brother asked why he stays w/ her and puts himself through all of it and his response was "because wolverinemack, crazy p*$$* is the best kind of p*$$*"

This is a good illustration of the problem. I'm probably in favor of whatever it is she's getting at, but she wrapped it up in crazy talk.

Is there any excuse for the sorry state of our rails? China has a train that goes a bit more than the equivalent of D.C. to Madison, WI in under 5 hours. We've been talking about plans for 'high speed' rails here for at least ten years and the 'high speeds' they're talking about are only 95 mph.

one excuse for not investing billions in that rail system would be the fact that we have planes that will get you from D.C. to Madison, WI in 92 minutes.

High speed rail makes more sense for short haul routes like NY to DC or even Boston to DC - I think it takes about 3 hours to get to DC from NY on the Acela train which only saves you 30 mins vs. "conventional" trains. It's definitely going to save you time on the NY end vs. any airport since the station is right in the City below MSG - not sure if you gain more time on the DC end - I've never taken it.

I agree that high speed rail makes more sense for shorter distances. But still, we don't have any high speed rail. That Acela train is some sort of sick joke seemingly designed by people that hate high speed rail to create propaganda suggesting high speed rail is impossible.

The real deal is amazing. It resembles flying, the way it banks into turns so you see the horizon tilt through the windows while you are still pulled straight towards the floor.

I don't commute there, nor do I care about the people that do, nor do I want my tax dollars going to pay for a massive infrastructure boondoggle. Fix the bridges and roads, let Amtrak or some other private interest(s), not taxpayers take the risk of high speed rail.

I haven't paid much attention to the arguments, but I think one of the less "anti-high speed rail propaganda" points about this particular route is the capacity, particularly near the endpoints - the population density, existing infrastructure, etc that would make it extremely challenging or nearly impossible to pull off.

I don't know much about the arguments out there either. I don't really think there is much of an argument going on. I just don't like going other places and being envious of technology or infrastructure.
