I took this from Rebbiv's post in thread The boards all-time team.

1969 is when each league was broken into 2 divisions, 4 teams added and the mound was lowered.

1973 = AL DH

1960 = 16 teams
1961 = 18 teams
1962 = 20 teams
1969 = 24 teams
1977 = 26 teams
1993 = 28 teams
1998 = 30 teams
1994 brought 3 divisions per league
1982 - 2011 = 30 years and incorporates most of the changes made over the last 50+ years.


I am leaning towards 1969, but also keep in mind, when baseball expanded in 1961, the season expanded from 154 games to 162 games.

1961 because there are so many great players who would be excluded by advancing the time eight seasons.

I say 61, the last 50 years.

And you could always do polls later of the first 50 years, it just breaks down easier at 50/50.

Actually, the lasy 50 years would make it 1962.

Also, if we are including current players, then any player in the last 50 years should count. Unless of course you limit by Plate Appearance, Innings Pitched, etc, etc...

Yes, I know 1961 makes it 51 years, but I am going with it b/c it was the first round of expansion.

A lot of great players emerged around that time as well. Seaver, Ryan, Reggie, Bench, etc
