The Payne effect

wow, floor spacing is a lot better with him on the floor. It's interesting to watch AP and KK work together, they never really played much before the injury, KK had to play because payne was hurt but only got a few minutes before then. AP draws a lot of attention and that opens things up, I don't expect 5-7 from 3 all the time but I can see a lot of open looks.

also, there was one 2pt putback KK got early on, both defenders tried to body payne up and cut him out, the ball came right to Kenny and he had an easy putback. having Payne in the game makes everyone else a lot better

You know what my favorite Payne effect is? The one where Gauna got in with the scrubs when we were up 20+. I think Costello and Payne compliment each other well.

it was only NW but you really saw the defense collapse around him when he got the ball in the post, he would draw a double and score, get fouled, or find and open shooter. KK, Trice, and Valentine are benefiting and getting a lot of open 3's.

it will be interesting to see how that translates against Michigan next week, we've always tried to go with two bigs against them and create mismatches. if they play gr3 at the 4, we can put AP on him, Payne can guard robinson but robinson can't guard payne.

I think the time off is going to ensure a Payne with fresh legs down the stretch. He was a man among boys last night. A healthy Payne might be the best big man in the country, I could see him averaging 20 and 10 the rest of the year. He can also pass the ball well.

Guy can do it all and I don't think there's a player in college basketball that can stop him.

I read an article today with the author wondering how the heck he could still be projected to be drafted in the 20s given his skillset. I would agree. The only thing I can think of is that scouts are holding him being a senior against him.
