Looks like Bowl games are getting even more amazing. The pageantry, the tradition, the Frosted Flakes!

I'm super excited for the announcements of the 2 Scoops of Raisins Bowl, the Yabba Dabba Doo Fruity Pebbles Bowl, the Gotta Have My Pops! Bowl, and the I'm Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs Bowl.

That story from a year or so ago... one of the Florida bowls like the Gator or Cap One... all the money going to a handful of politically connected insiders, and they claimed they worked really hard on "relationships" or some shit, but it was like $600,000 (and up) annual salaries, for 2 weeks of work a year. And hell yeah, of course they're going to agree to change the name of the bowl to whatever the sponsor with the biggest pile of money wants!

Really gross. I don't blame any players for sitting these money grabs out.

Risk an injury, so fucking Cletus Perkins IV of Sarasota, FL or some shit can make $1,000,000/yr? No thanks. even if I'm NOT going pro...

I think the old rule about excluding bowl results from the polls/records makes sense. They had their priorities straight back before the 1950's.

That existed in the 1960s as well. MSU lost to UCLA in the Rose Bowl and still was already awarded the NC.

They're going to expand the playoffs, I think, and then the "exhibition" bowls will gradually wither and die.

maybe a couple here and there will survive, as part of vacation packages sold to people that would willingly pay money to visit Orlando FL, or Phoenix AZ, as a break from cold winters elsewhere. ...or fanbases with lots of older alums with money burning a hole in their pocket.

Or maybe I'm wrong, and TV money + meager attendence will be enough to preserve the Autonation Liberty Bowl, or Hormel Chili Military Hunger Bowl (founded to honor the practice of cutting food stamps so we can earmark anoter $30 BILLION to defense contractors).

if a player isn't going pro why not start sitting out during your senior year so you don't risk injury? Fake injury so you can complete your education without risk of injury. It's just a game...they are all meaningless.

Whoa!

There's no slippery slope here, Sneaky Pete.

There's a clear difference between the regular season and playing a meaningless post season exhibition.

I could see a school pulling a scholarship if someone sits out regular season games; and that's probably warranted. playing a shitty bowl game so some sleazy southern businessmen can line their pockets, is a lot different.

my point was that all of the games are meaningless. It's just entertainment.

The world need the Quick Lane *Change* Bowl that draws < 30,000 fans and probably even fewer TV viewers that matches a mediocre B1G and a somewhat-decent ACC/MAC (or Notre Dame or other independent) opponent. It's good for Detroit's economy. About as good as a lunchtime rush at Chelly's across the street.

Prediction for 2019: South Carolina over Michigan State, 34-12.

Oh.

Well - to me at least - that kinda seems like a different, more philosophical discussion about the nature of football in general. Not about whether these dumbass bowl games are stupid and pointless as hell.

These "Exhibition" Bowl games are very meaningful ....to casinos and gamblers.
