.... you hearing this too, Tinsel?

TheVest was seen with UCLA AD in Beverly Hills on Monday and around Westwood the past couple days.

Might be "consulting" as he is for Akron's search or interviewing ...?

Isn't UCLA a tad too academically prestigious for Tress?

It's an okay school with some programs better than others but UCLA is a "public Ivy" like MICHIGAN, UVA, UNC & Berkeley.

And the academic standards for athletes is a lot higher than Ohio's.

could he win there? his "old boys network" is in ohio, which is like 2,500 miles away.

He would have to steal USC's recruits, which I don't think would be too hard to do considering all the shit that's gone on at that school.

I have a few clients here in the LA area who are big UCLA Alumni/boosters, including one guy whose sister married Rick Neuheisel. From what they've told me, the football program gets no love from the admin, especially when compared to hoops. One guy said the school is trying to create a "Dartmouth of the West Coast" and that academically, they don't want to make concessions for athletes.

It just seems like TheVest is more suited for a bigger, public school in the midwest or south and that a school like UCLA wouldn't be "big enough" for his Vest.

I just clicked on this post. I've heard a little speculation about him being brought on as I think the defensive coordinator.

What with Pujols going to the Angels, and Chris Paul coming to the Lakers, then not coming to the Lakers, the UCLA coaching job news has kinda been back burnered a little bit.

I think most - if not all - of his success from YSU to ohio* was predicated on the ability to use booster $$$ to out-recruit his rivals, and keep players on his squad motivated and eligible. He may be merely average as a coach, but that's all he ever needed to win with the athletes he was able to land.

If he's not given a position on the field in Indy, I'm guessing James Irsay & the Colts figured this out; that in the pros, his best coaching attributes have been rendered moot by the fact that everyone is paying their players...

IF he goes somewhere outside of ohio, he's going to need some time to build his "network" before it will start producing for him.

Now the updated rumor is Jim Mora, Jr and TheVest coming to Westwood

Sigh, again with this? The academic standards for athletes is the same at UCLA as it is at Ohio State as it is at Michigan. All of these schools follow the prop 48 NCAA guidelines. You meet your prop 48 standards and no school will turn you down to play if you are good enough on the field.

Why do people make this stuff up, as if Northwestern, Michigan, or Duke is turning down athletes that qualify under Prop 48 when their teams all sport players who barely met the minimum standards?

I said "academic _standards" not NCAA "guidelines" or minimum qualification standards and UCLA has different "academic standards" than do most other schools.

Sigh

Specifically what Michigan official policies are you citing to make your case? Not anecdotal evidence, but actual policies that you can link to. It's made up, Michigan lets in football players that barely make the NCAA/Big Ten standards just like any other school trying to compete for the best recruits.
