the guy at the blog has read an advanced copy of Bacon's book. He commented today. Of the comments, this one has me concerned:

And while I can't confirm this like the above, I can't help but think that Lloyd Carr hates this book more than anything he's ever hated.

Yep. I see that it did confirm the Ferentz, Miles, Schiano, then panic, then RIchRod timeline on the coaching search. I had thought that Schiano came before the Les Miles boat trip, but that was the only part I had wrong, it seems.

Stewart Mandel claimed that Schiano changed his mind after RR was picked, but before it was announced. Schiano came knocking after it was too late. At the time, some people were guessing that Schiano turned down Michigan because he wanted to be available for Penn St.

The developing thread spells out the "Martin submarined English so Lloyd submarined RR" theory, and Brian specifically says that Bacon tried and couldn't find anything to support it.

I'm reading over the article.

Cook is such a douche, eh? If you bitched about Carr's coaching, you "have deeply conflicted relationship with Carr," but in RR's case... it must simply be hatred. Because after all, no one could have a REASON to dislike the guy, or even criticize his coaching...

Glad I glanced at the comments, tough, because I saw this: "come to Chicago alumni event. October 6. And hear bacon yourself and get your book signed"

I'll be there. I might even get a picture of me smiling with the book & author and mail it to RichRod.

Looks like the rest of the comments are the typical MGoBlog ill-informed bullshit...

That's not how I interpreted what he wrote. He's trying to cover the range of feelings people have for Lloyd and RR. Love to hate for RR, Love to conflicted for Carr. He's just saying that nobody hates Carr, not telling you how to feel about them.

edit: here's the quote:
[quote:2l35q9td]If you are a Michigan fan the result is a must read. Hate Rodriguez, love Rodriguez, have deeply conflicted relationship with Carr, love Carr

we will just have to agree to disagree then.

SIDE NOTE:

over the summer, I picked up a copy of this year's Maple Street Press. It was 50% off at a soon-to-be-closed Borders'.

was reading the foreward, and when I got to a mention of RR, the writer claimed most of RR's problems "could be traced directly to Lloyd Carr..." puzzled that a Michigan preview would engage in that sort of unprofessional, and partisan crap, I flipped back to the cover and saw "Editor Brian Cook," so I tossed it KNOWING there wouldn't be any insight worth reading in it.

Good thing I only paid half price...
