McClendon to bench coach in staff shuffle.
Liddle retires as Tigers' lone coaching departure.

Lloyd McClendon is Tigers' new bench coach; Ramon Santiago, Dave Clark swap base assignments.

Switching them up: Detroit Tigers coaches returning, but in different roles.

Tigers? coaching staff will return with new roles but same faces in 2020.

Ramon Santiago aka Little Buddy was always a likeable guy, but he is not a 3rd base coach. This why the Tigers are dumb, giving another inexperienced guy a coaching job at 3rd.

Tigers announce coaching staff for 2020 season, and it looks pretty familiar.
Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

3B doesn't seem like a difficult job. Just know when to waive someone in or not, and know the signs.

Tired of McClendon.

I don't think there should be base coaches. I think the players should be left on their own to decide whether to advance or not. Signs can come from the bench, like they do in football. It would make play more interesting.

And no more base coaches getting killed by line drives.

Especially with guys like Miggy that dont even listen to then anyway.

McClendon has had the truly unique and extremely good fortune to have latched onto Leyland and the Tigers organization, where his career as a coach has lasted 5x or more longer than the MLB average. Not so for the vast majority of working stiffs nowadays, whose fathers. grandfathers, and/or great grandfathers might have managed to hold the same job, and/or work for the same company for most, if not all of their working lives. My father had held only two in the same field, but I had 15+ all of which were completely different in every way.

I can see the need for a 3rd base coach, given that a runner rounding second on a ball hit to right or right-center would have his back to the throw from the OF, and would be slowed up turning around and gauging if he had enough time to make it to third and/or beyond. Not so much first, seems to be just a butt-slapping position.

Saw this on MLB Trade Rumor article:

Astros first base coach Don Kelly is a candidate to draw managerial interest in the coming weeks, Morosi hears. The 39-year-old Kelly, best known for his run as a major league utlityman for the Pirates, Tigers and Marlins from 2007-16, is only in his first season as a coach. He spent the previous two seasons in a pro scouting role with Detroit.

So, he will probably take over after Gardy next year if Smokes is still calling shots. LOL

Legendary Lloyd just can?t get rid of this guy

We won't be able to get rid of these 20th century front office and manager coaches until the excuse of an owner sells the team. This is on hold from reports that it won't happen until Mr. Ilitch's wife passes.

CI?s in a real position to make some $$$ from a team with a low payroll and a loyal fan base. He?s not going to squander that. I don?t know if 1.3 M fans is ultimately profitable, but I would speculate yes. I bet he?s livid that he?s floating Prince for another season and paying Zimmerman and Cabrera $55,000,000.

Players would watch the jumbo tron to see where the ball is similar to college and pro football where they watch the screen to see where the defense is behind them on long runs.

Does anyone know if Lloyd vapes and if so, can someone send him a box of those black market THC infused cartridges?

I wouldn't trust McClendon to manage the Gatorade cooler at this point. Truly worthless.

I fear LL will take Gardy's place after next season. Seems impossible but then again the opposite of what should happen usually happens.
