Yeah, I am all too well aware that ST is mostly meaningless, records-wise anyway, and many teams who have had mediocre, if not poor ST W/L records, have gone on "tears" to start the regular season. However, the fact that the Tigers presently have a net positive run differential of +33 is quite comforting to me, much more than their 7-1-3 ST record, which is the best in MLB, the Blue Jays being right behind @ +32.

:)

The 3-7 Rays, even with their hyped and vaunted SP rotation (including their studly SP prospects waiting in the wings) are @ -16 in NRD thus far in Grapefruit League action. But I was just thinking about how pleasantly surprising it would be, if both the Yankees and the Red Sox got shoved/squeezed out of the '12 postseason by the Rays and the Jays, (as well as the Rangers or Angels needing to swipe the "other" new WC spot) however unlikely. The Red Sox have missed the postseason for two consecutive years, but how long has it been since them and the Yankees were both eliminated in one season?

???

1993, with the Orioles winning the ALED being the year prior to the only MLB season w/o a corresponding postseason and WS of '94, b/c of the players' strike. No WC spot was available yet as consolation prize, for either team with still just two divisions in each league.
