Tigers lost Gustavo Nunez in Rule 5 draft

Nunez was the top ranked shortrstop in the system with glove arm and range. stolen bases. Hitting was lacking. Last I read he had an ankle injury.
As for now top 3 shortstops would be Dixon Machado, Brandon Loy, and Eugenio Suarez. As with nunez, the bat remains the question; contact, plate discipline, and pitch recognition.
forget iorg for now.

I'm looking to seeing how Loy develops. I was excited we drafted him.

It looks like the Yankees got 2 pitchers in the rule 5 draft. If I understand the rules...they have to keep them on the major league roster for the entire year or they have to give them back?

Yes unless they offer back for 25k or if they decline the offer back the Yanks can send them to minors at that point. They might have to pass waivers as well.

So either the Yankees are desperate for pitchers or they are just gambling and if they don't pan out they just cut a few checks.

Pretty much. Either that or they're loaded and can carry a couple possible future big leaguers on the ML team.

If we're lucky he'll become Adam Everett.

I thought they had to stay on the big league team all year?

Yeah, I think I said that. Except if they offer player back the former team declines and they clear waivers, they aren't obligated to stay up on the big league club.

The guy could not hit the curveball to save his life. The Pirates got themselves a guy who can't hit

I think it's just the 40 man roster that they have to stay on.

Mitch[/color]]No, major league club.

Well in that case Nunez will end up back with us, if we want him.

He's not close to ML ready yet.

Depends on how the Pirates do. If they fail, they just might ride it out with him. Of course the tigers could not accept him back. He can go to the minors with Detroit but I believe he'd have to be on the 40. And since he was originally left off they might not want him back.
