Tigers Scout Anibal Sanchez Start

I dont think the Tigers need a starter unless they are looking at a number #2 type pitcher. Considering they will only pitch 4 starters in the playoffs (if they make the playoffs) what good will another #4 or #5 type pitcher do for them? JV, Doug, and Max are locks for playoff rotation, and Rick potentially gets one or two starts, or whoever they would trade for. I think the more pressing need is second base or a right handed corner outfielder with power. I dont see how Anibal Sanchez significantly helps this team, but I guess it would depend on what the Tigers would have to give up.

Exactly.

Lots of people want Garza or Shields was mentioned, but they are not significant upgrades over what we have and the cost would make it a losing move.

Unless we can get Sanchez cheap, I don't think we need him.

Need to get to the playoffs first. So you're be getting a share of Porcello, Smyly, Turner, Below ect the rest of the way. A solid starter could help. And Leyland doesn't go 3-man staff during the playoffs so Porcello or other guy?

So what if we get to the playoffs? A solid starter will help yes, but is it worth what we would have to pay for it? And let's not forget a starter influences every 5th game only.

It's all about cost, the more we spend on a Starter the less we have to fill any other everyday holes.

How? How will it effect everyday holes? Are we going to run out of prospects or money? You make it sound like Detroit is going to add 6 new players by the deadline.

And Sanchez, a high 3 era in the NL won't cost as much as you think. Certainly no top prospects, no Turner or Canstellanos.

I didn't say how much it would cost, so how do you know it won't cost as much as I think?

But we're limited on what we have that another team will take in a trade. Think anyone wants Cale Iorg? LOL

And I'm not saying add 6 players, but I'd like to see at least one everyday player at either Corner OF, or Middle IF, those players would have a much larger impact than a 1 in 5 guy.

Because IMO, he's a 3 on a NL team. I'd send him Andy Oliver and call it a day. He's not worth more. Throw in Iorg as a bonus.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. But we both know that's not enough to get him in a sellers market.

And he's worth way more then Any Oliver...I'm hoping you were making a joke.

We dont need a #2 starter imo. We need a top 4 starter for a playoff push. That would allow us to use Ricky during the playoffs like how Below is currently being used.

Our fourth starter last year, Porcello, got two starts in the playoffs and actually was statistically the Tigers second best pitcher in the playoffs. JV had four starts. Max and Doug each had three starts. Picking up a 4th starter wouldn't help the Tigers that much, it would all depend on what they'd have to give up. Giving up turner for someone like Sanchez would be foolish in my mind. Like I said the only way it would make sense would be to get a #2 starter, which would push Porcello to the bullpen.

The Marlins would laugh at that deal, Andy Oliver isnt worth shit. Dude is a walk machine. Almost certain that the Marlins would ask for Turner.

They wouldn't even consider Oliver, but they also wouldn't expect to get Turner either.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources tell me and @jonmorosi that #Marlins are extremely disappointed with team's performance and are prepared to make a series of trades.
