1 year, 8 million. We have our #5 starter now.

Hey, it might fail miserably, but at least the Tigers are showing they think they can compete next year. 2 relief pitchers and a LFer to complete the roster.

Miserable pickup.

Of the 121 MLB starters with at least 160 IP Away the last 3 years:

xFIP

7. M. Scherzer 2.95
8. D. Price 3.06
19. J. Zimmermann 3.39
22. A. Sanchez 3.45
25. J. Verlander 3.55
37. R. Porcello 3.68

69. E. Jackson 4.02
70. D. Fister 4.05

119. A. Simon 4.65
120. M. Pelfrey 4.73 (.311 OPP BAVG 1.61 WHIP 1.68 SO/BB)

With all the talk about the Tigers employing more analytics this year, I wonder if they know what they are doing or if they were even consulted.

Maybe they used a Z to A sort order on their Excel spreadsheet rankings.

Yeah, seeing more of Pelfrey's stats, he's a complete zero and a terrible #5, any team should be able to throw a stone into their AAA clubhouse and hit someone who's as good of an option as Pelfrey is for their #5 starter.

So what do we have now?
Verlander
Zimmerman
Sanchez
Norris/Boyd
Pelfrey

Is Simon still on the team?

AA is turning into a clown... pizza man still wants to spend and we get this :/

Ugh! hearing it's 2 years 16 million. WTF? Guy will have an ERA pushing 5 the next two seasons and we just paid him 16 million for it. Terrible signing at face value. We could pay a couple minor league players a fraction for equal or better results.

Pelfrey completed 6 innings in just 27 of 64 (42.2%) starts with the Twins. He failded to go at least 5 innings in 19 of 64 starts (29.7%).

Can anyone find one good thing about this signing?

I usually reserve my 'wtf' moments for the Lions...

But WTF!? I can't see how this makes us any better. If we were clearly rebuilding and expecting high draft picks, fine. But all other moves prior to this showed they wanted to compete this year. I don't even know...

Terrible...pelfrey is not that good, it's a downgrade from Simon IMO, which isn't saying much but c'mon man pelfrey? Psssfft

Pickups like this, Tigers will be lucky to finish in last place, let alone finish the season!

Well, look at the bright side, we still have Jim Bob Cooter...

The $ spent on Maybin and Pelfrey combine would be enough to sign a solid RP for a few years. Don't have anyone in particular in mind, but there has to have been a much better way to spend that money.

The Tigers just got bent over by Scott Boras. You'd swear Boras would be the majority shareholder in Little Ceasar's by now the way Illitch keeps paying the guy.

Exactly. This is the kind of guy you get just prior to spring training for the league minimum...not a 2 year deal! STUPID!!!

Funny thing is I copied these stats to some guy defending the move on my Facebook feed. He's still defending it anyways. People blow my mind.
