The last time the Los Angeles Angels squared off the Detroit Tigers, they did so without nine-time All-Star Albert Pujols.
This time, they'll have to do it without AL Cy Young candidate Jered Weaver.
Weaver was officially scratched from Friday's start after an MRI found that he has tendinitis in his right shoulder. His next start is yet to be determined, but it's not expected to take place this weekend.
As a result, Angels right-hander Ervin Santana, who is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in two starts this season against the Tigers, will start in his place.
Can the Tigers take advantage of the unfortunate -- but fortunate -- break?
Detroit will counter with right-hander Max Scherzer, who is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two starts against the Angels this season, both in Detroit. More impressive? He has a 1.03 ERA in his last three starts after throwing eight scoreless innings last Saturday.
No big surprises to tonight's lineup. Tigers manager Jim Leyland has stacked it heavy with left-handed hitters, including Ramon Santiago, who will spell Omar Infante at second base.
Santiago has struggled since the All-Star break, hitting 6-for-41 without an extra-base hit in 20 games. The alternative is Omar Infante, who has three career RBIs against Santana, but is 1-for-6 lifetime with three strikeouts.

Good news, bad news for Detroit Tigers as they head out for key 10-game road trip.

boesch 6th and santiago is playing, whee....

i hope we demolish these assholes.

They have played good against LAA this year so far. They need to take 2 of 3.

Taking 2 out of 3 is a must, as the Angels are tied with the Tigers in the lose column. Right now Tigers have to over take 3 teams in front of them in the wild card standings. Depending on winning the division has been unwise as both times the Tigers have beaten Chicago they turn around and have lost it back against a sub.500 team. And there in lays the real problem this team has this season. There record with sub .500 teams.

But really Tigers need to win ever game until they have over come those teams in front of them in the race for a playoff spot! The best way would be to over take Chicago. Starting with this series the thinking has got to be every game is a playoff/must game.

It's time to get down to winning to make the playoffs.

I would like how the favorite/underdog % is figured out? ESPN has LAA 57% to Tigers 43%. Tigers have a 5-2 record against LAA. Maybe ESPN just likes the Angels.

Makes sense to me. Having been swept by the Royals their last time away from home and coming off a dismal showing at home against the free falling Indians.

at least, we ain't seen the likes of Raburn in the lineup.

Or... haven't all 7 been at Detroit therefore they are factoring in a little home field?

I don't mind seeing Santiago in the lineup tonight so much considering that Omar hasn't hit much lately just as long as he doesn't boot any balls at 2nd it's all good. AA on the other hand, would rather see laird in there given the horrible slump AA has been in, unless of course Toby got it figure out for him now. we'll see.

KC up 2-1 in the third over sox, let's get this party started up in here!
Edit: AJ putzinski ties it up 2-2

Damn, Trout retakes batting lead, and almost ends up on 3rd.

Brown-eye was bound to show up sooner or later.

Let's hope it;s just for this inning.

I knew Prince would get him after Miggy's at bat. 2-1.
