Rookie Avisail Garcia to roam right field, Gerald Laird behind plate in Game 2.
Detroit Tigers rookie outfielder Avisail Garcia started the year in Single-A Lakeland. Less than seven months later, he's roaming right field in Game 2 of the ALDS.
How quickly they grow.
Garcia -- as expected -- will bat eighth behind Andy Dirks, who will shift to left field against the Oakland A's in a quick-turnaround game that begins at noon.
Manager Jim Leyland mentioned Garcia's name in passing last week, suggesting the 21-year-old right-handed slugger would likely start against southpaws this postseason. Oakland will turn to left-hander Tommy Milone in Game 2.
As a result, Gerald Laird gets the starting nod behind the plate over Alex Avila, who belted a solo shot in the fifth inning Saturday en route to Detroit's 3-1 series-opening win.
A career .261, Avila is hitting .176 against left-handers this year. It's possible he could ride the pine in Game 3, too, with left-hander Brett Anderson slated to start for Oakland.
Omar Infante, as he has since his arrival, moves to the No. 2 spot as Leyland continues to play the pitching matchups. First pitch is set for 12:07 p.m. and will be televised on TBS.

Surprised to see Laird catching Fister today even with a lefty on the mound considering how much better Fister's numbers are with Avila catching him. It was just was mentioned on the MLB network that Fister's ERA is almost a run better with Avila catching him then Laird.

Also his complete game shutout earlier in the year and 9 straight K game was caught by Avila.

last time Millone started vs Tigers he left in the 5th and the Tigers got blown out late , and in May in Oakland the A's scored 11 runs and they won that also...hopefully they bop this kid around and repay the favor.

Well Laird had to start today. Jim kept with his tradition, hit a home run and get the next game off.

Fister pitching 1st inning,

FF crisp fastball swings and misses, curve outside, popped foul, again, swings and misses a curve,

show the f'n game, tv announcer broads in the stands,

drew ball, strike call, golfs a curve foul, pop fly to shallow left and Peralta has it,

cespedes fastball low, fly deep down left into foul ground and Dirks has it,

Fister with 11 pitches,

Go Get'em Tigers.

Bull shit this game isn't on tv. I don't get MLB network so I have to watch it on the internet and all the damn buffering I have to go through

found this tweet from Sam_Crawford

Tigers fans, today's game can only be seen via your TV on #MLB Network. Can watch online for $4.99 at MLB (not an endorsement).

Wow.

MLB network having technical difficiluties and isn't even broadcasting the game.

What a fucking joke.

Tigers batting 1st inning,

Jackson strike call, changeup fouled back, fastball high, swings and misses skips away from catcher and throw to first,

Infante takes high, lined foul down right, popped to short,

Cabrera takes a changeup strike, takes fastball low inside, again, changeup fly to deep left center to the wall and Miggy has a double, #Beast

Fielder fastball high, now it's a strike, fastball outside, another low 3 and 1, swings and misses cutter full count, fly to left,

milone with 17 pitches.

Cabrera now has nine post-season extra-base hits with the Tigers, tied for third-most in franchise history w/Craig Monroe.
Cabrera trails Pete Fox (10) and Hank Greenberg (14) on the club's all-time list.

Just 4 of Cabrera's 44 HRs this year came off lefties, but 13 of his 40 doubles were off LHP.

Fister pitching 2nd inning,

moss strike call, another at the knees strike call, curve in the dirt check swing ball, and the swing back fastball on the inside corner strike three,

FF reddick fouls it back, strike call, curve in the dirt checks swing again 3rd base ump wall bell f'ks up, ball, swings and misses a curve tailing away and down,

Yellow Hammer lol,

donaldson strike call, bloop to right fastball in on hands single,

FF smith fastball strike call, big curve swings and misses, curve in the dirt, Fister shaking off Laird, now ff steps out, get fucked mark wegner... that didn't hit him,

kotteras ball and a strike, curve ground foul, swings and misses the yellow hammer,

Fister Fists the a's now with 29 pitches,

Tigers pitchers have struck out 18 of 43 Oakland batters faced so far in this series,

Fister struck out 9 Royals in a row without using that breaking ball much. If he's got that down, A's have a problem.

Cabrera has reached base safely in all 13 of his post-season games w/ Tigers. Trails only Gehringer (16) and Greenberg (18).
