Tigers vs. athletics Game Thread August 29

Max said give them credit, they were swinging the sticks as hot as any team he's ever seen swing it.

im so fucking jealous, my mom just told me that my dad and brother were at the game today.

edit: my brother just texted me that it was hotter than the devil's anus and that it sucked for 8 1/2 innings, but the ending made it all worth it.

I was thinking of going today but I can't sit there when it's hot like that. I had a few friends posting on facebook from the game saying it was hot. I highly doubt I would have stayed for the entire thing after seeing what happened the previous 3 days.

@Dan_Dickerson Any way you can post a link to your call of Hunter's HR, Dan?

Dan Dickerson ‏@Dan_Dickerson
@IdahoBert Should be posted by tomorrow morning - I'll post link as soon as I have it...

that name is from motownsports

4 innings 4 hits 4 K's that was maybe the only 4 straight shutout innings the 4 games, sure seemed like it.

I looked earlier just to check the series for hits. Veras is the only Tiger pitcher not to give up a hit. Al Al and Bonderman each gave up 1 hit. Everyone else gave up at least 2 hits. I can't ever recall seeing a team beat up an entire pitching staff (especially a great starting staff like ours) like that for a 4 game series.

This is what made me and a few of you question the ethical integrity and honesty of the a's.
No way they clobber every Tigers' pitcher without some help.

Drew Sharp is a (sic) idiat (sic). A tweet from today.

Drew Sharp‏@drewsharp
Leyland should consider keeping Hunter in sixth spot in batting order, compensating for Peralta loss.
Worse, some people agreed with him.

"TOTALLY AGREE"

"would you put Infante in the 2 hole? I like the thinking but don't like Andy in the 2."

Some liked the idea but had a question:

"would work except no one capable on the team to bat second"

Some were not that supportive:

"Yeah, ya f**ing moron, let's take away at-bats from a guy who is the team's second best hitter. Just f**king take an acid bath"

"Stick to what you know. Which is criticizing things you don't know about. Dumbest. Idea. Ever. Since the JOA."

Kaline,
I know I'm a homer fan but I was thinking the same thing, r they stealing our signs . If Cleveland gets us I will start to worry.

Sharp is right. Hunter is a better run producer than Dirks, while Dirks' numbers in the top 2 spots of the order are actually pretty good. It would give Prince even more protection, and Dirks would have the protection of Miggy. It would also allow us a R-L-R-L-S-R top 6, which would devastate opposing managers late in games on how to manage their pens. It would be the perfect move. If your number 2 hitter has 70 RBI in late August, it's time to move them to a run producing spot in the lineup.

No. You dont move a better hitter down in the lineup and replace him with a much worse hitter (because Dirks' small sample size numbers in the 2-hole need to be ignored, just like all small sample sizes like that). And for what, MAYBE a few extra RBI chances? That will be evened out by the fact that Dirks will be on less in the 2-hole. And ordering a lineup like that just to mess with an opposing manager is pointless. Its an awful idea all around.

Also, protection is a myth. Its been disproven time and time again, could someone throw a link in again on one of those articles? I dont think I ever bookmarked one.

or how about what the a's do against the rays pitching which is real good too.

Don't want to vacate what's not broken if it's not necessary. It puts Miggy up more often with no one on base. It gets fewer ABs for Hunter. It vacates a productive 2-spot, because I can't trust that Dirks's numbers will sustain.

They won? Sweet! I'll have to catch the reply now, I still want to know just how it was those a's from 1 to 9 were able to rank our staff over the coals like that, it still stinks to high heaven

I just trolled balfour on twitter.

one of these years I'll grow up.

Not, soon, hopefully.

I could not resist, in response to this tweet from yesterday by Balfour:

Balfour: HUGE win!! Hell Yeah!! Going for the SWEEP Thursday! Bring the brooms blokes!! #LetsGoOakland #Athletics #BalfourRAGE

Me: "Wow. The opposite of prescient. O Henry never conceived of this richness of irony. I wonder if Torii knew what was coming."
