Detroit Tigers Gameday: Doug Fister seeks sweep of Braves on national 'Sunday Night Baseball' stage.
from Mlive

Regarding Dirks: "I mean, I’m not going to make excuses why I haven’t been hitting. I don’t know if it (knee) is a factor or not."
Dirks (cont. on knee): "Could be. Could be a lot of factors. Definitely wasn’t helping the issue, you know?"

Espn Top Stats to know: Tigers at Braves.
2-- Tigers starter Doug Fister (3-0) looks to be the 6th Tigers pitcher in the past 90 years to finish April 4-0 or better. Fister has a 2.10 career ERA in April, the lowest among any active pitcher with at least 90 career innings pitched for the month.
4-- Miguel Cabrera is looking to be the third right-handed hitter to win 3 straight batting titles, joining Honus Wagner (four straight from 1906 to 1909) and Rogers Hornsby (1920 to 1925). Since the start of 2008, Cabrera ranks tied for second in the majors in home runs, first in RBI, and second in OPS.

It’s the typical right-handed heavy lineup for Detroit against Braves lefty Mike Minor. Jhonny Peralta stays in the sixth spot. The only Tigers who have faced Minor are National League veterans Prince Fielder, who’s 3-for-3 against him, and Omar Infante, 4-for-12 with two strikeouts. Nobody in the Braves lineup, for that matter, has faced Doug Fister. B.J. Upton has faced Fister, but he’s getting the night off in the midst of a 4-for-32, 14-strikeout slump. Dan Uggla moves to DH, with Tyler Pastornicky at second.

Tonight's lineup will be the first one in I do not recall when. That will start everone at.200+ tonight.

Hunter and Miggy are currently 1st and 2nd in the AL batting race at .380 and .370.

It's been raining non stop since about 10:30 this morning. Looks like it should end soon...maybe it has ended in the city.

Fer crissakes detroit, save some rain for the rest of the country.

Dirks' knee hasn't been 100 percent since spring training, but it's getting better.
from the Oakland Press

Legitimate reason for the slow start.

But also raises a legitimate question about his durability. We limped through seasons before with Magglio and Guillen being walking band-aids, Dirks needs to prove he can stay healthy, or we'll be better off with someone else in his roster spot.

Yes, and although I am comparing a hall of famer in Kaline to Dirks, it is only for the durability issue. Kaline was always missing 20/30 games a season. last year of over 150 games played for him was 1961. Now when Andy is playing he isn't coming down from a higher league to play ml ball like Al. But some guys are always going to get banged up. It was a shame, but Maggs and Carlos broke down and couldn't get back to anything near their former selves.
Avila seems to be another. and imo the beating he took playing as much as he did in 2011, when Victor couldn't catch, has taken a toll on him. He runs slower than I do, at least it seems it.
This wouldn't be as big an issue imo, but for the fact the bench outside of Tooey is really or seems to be one of the worst....I haven't taken the time to look at every other teams bench.
I remember as a kid and teen, teams like the Yankees would have aging all-stars as backups, good hitters, some hof'ers. Platoon and backups like Gene Woodling, Hank Bauer, Enos Slaughter, Johnny Mize come to mind.
Best case scenario, with the swelling finally going down, he comes back healthy in May and has a May and season like 2012 before the Achilles......
or as you say make a trade of plenty for another star to lengthen the lineup even more. But that would cost Nick, Avi, and several others like when they got The Beast.

Tarp about to come off field. Braves-Tigers game should start on time.

they just showed Comerica before going back to larkin and ketchup sock schilling, looks dreary.

Not as bad as it looks, a warm 55 spring has finally arrived!

Larry Herndon being presented with his Detroit Tigers African American Legacy Award before we start. #Tigers.

The 59-year-old Larry Herndon looks like he's in tip-top shape. Maybe he can sub in left field. #Tigers.

Tigers just gave Larry Herndon a nice watch as part of Negro League weekend.

Glad to hear. 70ish Today here and into next week will be the first full week without rain or snow since probably last Sept.

It's supposed to be 70 to mid 70's the rest of the week without much rain. Minnesota series shouldn't have any issues.

How do you guys feel about the espn crew Schulman, Kruk, and Hershiser calling tonights game?

Fister pitching 1st inning,

schaffer called out on strikes,

pastrami slices a double down the right field line,

jupton fouls it back, strike call, fastball outside, check swing ump says no, shit, swings and misses a changeup, stop whining ya puke,

freeman fastball high, swing back called strike, ground foul by first, swings and misses a 'yellow hammer',

Fister fisting the braves with 17 pitches.

Meh, I bet they're all disappointed Jason Verlander isn't pitching tonight.

Probably. schulman is ok lots worse, I like Hershiser's insight on the players. Kruk seems to be there for something goofy most of the time.

Fister strikes out the side around a Pastornicky double. Tigers pitchers have struck out 31 Braves in 19 innings in this series, in a series in which neither Verlander nor Scherzer started a game.
