Tigers vs. Cardinals June 23, 2021 Game 74 1:00PM start

He walked a guy to put runners on 1st and 2nd and Carpenter(lefty) was up. They went to Soto for the L/L matchup. He got a nice ovation when he came out. I like the kids mound presence. Looks like he belongs there.

I thought it was the right call to pull him

Unofficially, but it appears Clint Sodowsky was the last Tigers starter to throw 5IP and allow 2 runs or less in their first two career starts.

A great stat from the post game show from Dan Dickerson.12 innings of scoreless work from the bullpen, going back to Sunday.

Jonathan Schoop now leads MLB for June in home runs (10), RBIs (22) and extra-base hits (17) after homering to lead off bottom fifth.

Jonathan Schoop looks to be the first 20 home run hitter since Nick Castellanos in 2018.

Schoop keeps it up and he'll fetch us a decent young bat or two in return. Good to see the young pitchers having some levels of success in the majors at a young age. I know this is the year of the pitcher.....but Skubal and Mize have the stuff do develop into top tier MLB starters in the next 1-2 years.

Future is looking......um.......not so bleak. A good draft and the development of Tork, Greene, Dingler and Daz could have them back to respectable sooner rather than later.

The only problem with trading Schoop or not resigning him to a 2 or 3 year contract is there is no second baseman on the roster or in the minors who can hit and some can't even field the position. Young Clemens is all they have iirc. and he isn't ready yet. This is the same problem with shortstop.

see the part about trading talent.

Schoop is only 29, no reason to trade him. Same reason not to trade CASTELLANOS. Teams in rebuild seem to think it's okay to trade anyone half way decent. So they can get a marginal prospect that might be bench player in 2-3 seasons.

Would much prefer they extend him as to trade him. As I said in another thread Willi is likely going to have to stick at 2b as his glove is too much a liability at SS. Guess we will see if his bat starts to mirror last year but his Babip last year was unreal.

YOU MAKE THE CALL.
Totally Tigers

You Make the Call is a new segment where readers must make a decision.

Every week we will identify an issue that is going on with the Tigers. And it?s an issue that must be resolved by A.J. Hinch. Readers must choose one decision from the 2 or 3 offered as the one you feel is the best way to address the issue.

As always, we ask readers to take some time to comment and explain their rationale. Please remember to keep your comments to the 4-sentence maximum rule.

Let?s kick this off!

With Michael Fulmer now firmly entrenched back in the bullpen following a trip to the IL, A. J. Hinch has a decision to make. Will he tread lightly with Fulmer and keep him from pitching in back-to-back games, or will he use him the same as before the injury?

So, we leave it up to you to make the call.

With Michael Fulmer back in the pen, should he be used differently?

1. Yes - no more back-to-back games.

2. No - use him the same as before, he needs to adapt to a heavy bullpen workload.

I agree that the best scenario would be to re-sign him to a 3-4 year contract. The only problem with that is the Tigers don't know if he will re-sign. Trading him because you don't want him on the team for the next 3-4 years would be a bad idea. Trading him because you think he won't sign is acceptable.

I would imagine they already talked about it. or at least have a feeling one way or another.. Obviously if he said "I want to be a free agent" then you trade him. I just don't value GM's trade skills. Outside the one for for Avila and Wilson they've been pretty bad.
