I agree to some degree but think the hitter needs to look at it more like a 3-0 count with the green light. Look for a specific pitch and if you get it hammer it. Don't just swing at it because it might be a strike like you would with a 0-2 count. You would rather not be down 0-1 but if you are it is better than getting an out because you didn't want to take a strike.

I'm not advocating them swinging first pitch because they might go down 0-1. I'm saying swing if it looks like a good pitch, if not, take it. Forcing hitters to always take pitch 1 will result in them being in the hole most often.

I would agree, but then again it's September with expanded rosters, this is usually the time of you they try to conserve pitch counts on starters.
