Tigers vs. mariners Game Thread September 18

Leyland: "Phil is just not making enough quality pitches to get big league hitters out right now."

Jim Leyland, brilliant stater of the obvious.

Of course, he also cant go out and say "Phil Coke sucks ass", so thats about as harsh a criticism as you'll hear him say in public.

OPS by month.. April: .763, May: .777, June: .793, July: .814, August: .819, September: .726. It's down, but offense isn't a problem.
This is why. RPG by month: JUL: 5.9; AUG: 5; SEP: 3.9

Giving credit to the opponents pitching is one thing. But these shutouts are becoming a real concern by these so called good pitchers. As the Tigers will see some pretty good to great pitchers in the playoffs! The real question for all to consider Tigers can not beat Iwakuma, how well they stand up to Colon,Darvish,Kuroda,Price,Holland. IMO the Tigers are not playing up to where they need to be playing They are 11-11 in there last 22 games! Some of those teams R not very good!

Thats what worries me too. This offense can certainly beat up on some of those guys, but they also have the worrying tendency to shut down completely when facing good pitching.

Been concerned about this #1 paper offense all year and last..that WS offense last year was very painful and still hurts

Raburn just 'Shineboxed' the most routine fly ball to RF.

royals up 5 - 2 in the 9th

Two run single makes it KC 7, Indians 2 in the ninth. Bases still loaded for royals.

looking good for the magic number to drop to Greenberg/Northrup.

Chris Davis just tied up the RBI race.. :-(

Im surprised he didnt do it sooner given miggy's injuries.

if he hadnt gotten injured, i think miggy would have been pushing 50+ homers and maybe even 150+ RBI.

alas, he's been hobbled for like 2 months now.

Yea it's too bad, but all this stuff doesn't really matter anymore. The HR title is out of reach so if Miggy loses the RBI total as well, it makes no difference really. It would be cool to see him win another batting title though, as well as MVP. Hopefully he is healthy enough to play like himself in October.

Id be extremely surprised if he doesnt win the batting title, he's still 17 points above trout with what, like 11 games to go? And he has a chance still to still be the RBI king depending how it goes.

But yeah, im not worried about that. I just want him healthy for the playoffs.

Tigers average runs per game by month:
APR: 5
MAY: 5.3
JUN: 4.5
JUL: 5.9
AUG: 5
SEP: 3.7

We have a September issue here....

At what point do the Tigers just say Phil Coke stinks and quit sending him out there. He gets nobody out!
