mets lineup: (career numbers vs. Verlander).
Curtis Granderson, DH (5-for-25, 2 doubles, triple, HR, 4 walks, 9 K’s)
Alejandro De Aza, CF (9-for-40, double, triple, 2 HR, 2 walks, 11 K’s)

Rene Rivera, C (0-for-4, walk, 3 K’s)
Matt Reynolds, SS
P: Noah Syndergaard
Cameron Maybin remains out with his sprained thumb, giving Tyler Collins another start in center. Interestingly, though, Collins moves up to second in the batting order against Noah Syndergaard, who’s allowing a .284 batting average and a .729 OPS to left-handed hitters compared to .220 and .562 against righties.
The Mets have a retinkered outfield with Jay Bruce on board and Yoenis Cespedes on the DL, but Curtis Granderson gets a game at designated hitter. Alejandro De Aza is in center.
“It’s been a while since I’ve got a chance to face him,” Granderson said of hitting against Verlander. “But if anything, he’s very competitive and he’s very confident and he’s one of the top guys in that rotation for a reason. He’s been there for a very long time. He’s one of the last guys on that ’06 team that’s still here, so the fans definitely love him and he feeds off of it.”

Detroit Tigers Gameday: Justin Verlander goes for third straight win vs. Mets.
Mlive
DETROIT -- Victor Martinez is back in the Detroit Tigers lineup, but Cameron Maybin is missing a second day in Friday's series opener against the New York Mets.
Martinez sat out Thursday after feeling under the weather. Maybin has been out with a mild thumb sprain. Tyler Collins will start in his place.
"There's still some swelling (of Maybin's thumb)," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "It could be another day, it could be another two days."
An ultrasound revealed no structural damage.
