TIGERS Lineup:
1.Austin Jackson, CF
2.Brandon Inge, 2B
3.Miguel Cabrera, 3B
4.Prince Fielder, 1B
5.Delmon Young, LF
6.Alex Avila, C
7.Jhonny Peralta, SS
8.Gerald Laird, DH ???????????
9.Brennan Boesch, RF
P: Drew Smyly, Jacob Turner, Andy Oliver

The pitching lineup today has been tweaked a bit due to Sunday

Lard is Tigers' game "DH" being far more D than H...lol.

I'm sure there's a reason and it is only ST but BB 9 and Inge 2? You'd think being ST they would try to emulate what the season lineup would be like. Where's that fire Leyland thread, lol.

With Inge fighting for a position he's trying to give him as many ABs as possible.

Makes sense I guess. But is that the reason they said or that we think?

turner just crapped the bed. 6 runs in 1.2 innings including a grand slam.

Leyland has said that in ST he mixes up the lineup to give guys more AB sometimes. It's nothing you should read into, just a matter of course throughout spring.

we got 3 back, its 7-6 mets now. cabrera double, avila double, peralta single, laird double.

Collin Balester is proving to be a bit more then a throw away as some thought. He seems to be pretty viable option as a contributor out of the pen.

So did Ryan Perry.

Only time will tell.

Yeah, esp. b/c Perry's eyesight is failing him. and his days as a professional pitcher are possibly numbered for just that reason alone.

I have a problem with evaluating someone on 12 days of Spring Training games and neglecting the previous 8 seasons.

Right now, I see the following.

SP - Verlander
SP - Fister
SP - Scherzer
SP - Porcello
SP - Below

CL - Valverde
RP - Benoit
RP - Dotel
RP - Coke
RP - Schlereth
RP - Wilk
RP - Balester (removed Pauley)

That has nothing to do with it. Perry used to look like he would be something special in the bullpen, I'm just saying Balester is no different.

Yet.

To answer a couple of questions...
Leyland said he hit Inge second because he wanted to maximize the at-bats for both Inge and Eric Patterson, the latter of whom replaced Inge during the game.
As for Laird being used as the designated hitter, it was because he missed four days (Wednesday-Saturday) because of a death in his family. Laird returned for Sunday's game in Clearwater against the Phillies, but "is still short of ABs," Leyland said. "We're trying to catch him up."
