Fister will think he's in Seattle again.

Though Raburn and Young have been putting up run support I guess, it
s probably going to be offset by Inge, Laird, Kelly, Thomas, and Dirks.

Friday: Tigers at Pirates.
With Miguel Cabrera out and Prince Fielder not on the trip, Jim Leyland gets to pull out the card that says you can play the hot bats in the middle of the order in Spring Training. Ryan Raburn is batting cleanup today, with Delmon Young batting fifth. Interesting to see Jhonny Peralta hitting third, but that might just be a situation to get him an extra at-bat early before getting him out of the contest.
Brandon Inge starts at third base for the second straight game.
The Pirates are not using the designated hitter.

Tigers also scheduled to pitch: RHP Jose Valverde, RHP Luis Marte and RHP Brayan Villarreal.

Andy Dirks with a lead-off duck snort, Texas leaguer, hump-back liner.

Raburn with the first solid contact off the Pirates' Charlie Morton ? and the first easy out.

your standard (gift) single for Tabata under the glove of the 3B (Inge), thrown out at second by Peralta backing him up.

One-two-three inning for Fister. 1B/6-4; 3-1; 5-3 if you're scoring at home.

I know a lot of baseball terms, but what does this mean?

get the feeling it was a soft liner over the infielders and in front of the outfielder.

Let's just say it wasn't hit hard or a line drive.

The Pirates' Matt Hague takes Fister deep to left for a 2-0 lead over the Tigers in the second.

Quintin Berry with a Grand Slam. DET up 7-2 in the 9th.

Berry has been hot all spring.

Doug Fister Fister leaves with right middle finger soreness.
Per Kevin Rand, the finger soreness is something Fister has had before, in Seattle.

day to day....hopefully

The local and MSM has warned about the Tigers' defense perhaps affecting their chances of winning another AL Pennant and playing in the World Series, but IMO, it is their SP rotation that may become cause for the most concern this season. I would feel a whole lot better if they had acquired a LH veteran SP that was no worse than a middle 3 during the off-season, b/c both the Red Sox and maybe even the Yankees as well, the latter despite trading for Pineda and possibly Pettitte's (effective) return, will both be looking to improve their rotations prior to the trade deadline.

That also doesn't take into consideration any potential NL contenders who may also be looking to improve their SP. The only "predicted" contending teams in the AL that appear to be able to overcome/withstand a SP being injured or perhaps somewhat ineffective, w/o needing to make a trade are in order, the Rays, Rangers and Angels. The Tigers certainly can ill-afford to lose any SP to injury or for that matter pitch poorly in stretches, and obviously are already gambling/counting on one of their prospects to make the leap to the majors and be able to pitch well for much of the coming season.
