Laird catches Porcello for 3rd time in as many starts, but is not Porcello's personal catcher. Avila was slated to catch him last night.
Andy Dirks not available. He could've pinch-hit under warmer temps, Leyland said, but with cooler weather, he doesn't want to risk hammy.
Jason Beck

Ryan Raburn has a BABIP of .100 with a line drive pct of only 3.3%
Can't wait for his career .169/.205/.260 in May to kick in.

DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland wasn't required to change his strategy following Friday's rainout, but he needed to make a couple adjustments to the lineup.

Catcher Alex Avila was initially penciled in to start Friday's game against the Texas Rangers before it was postponed and rescheduled for Saturday night as part of a day-night doubleheader.
As a result, Leyland will start Gerald Laird at catcher for the regularly-scheduled day game at 1:05 p.m. in an effort to save Avila's knees for Saturday's nightcap.

It's the third time Laird has caught Rick Porcello in as many starts, but Leyland quickly dismissed a question asking if Laird was Porcello's personal catcher.
Avila will start the series finale Sunday, too, which was initially intended to be caught by Laird.

Leyland also said he anticipates making Miguel Cabrera the designated hitter for Game 2 and starting utility infielder/outfielder Don Kelly at third base Saturday night.
Cabrera has made all 13 starts at third base this season.
"The second game tonight would be a good time," Leyland said. "Miguel doesn?t like doing it in day games so much, so if I do it, it?ll probably be tonight."

First baseman Prince Fielder will likely DH in the series finale Sunday.
"I?m just giving you ideas," Leyland said. "Get them both off their feet for a day."

I heard there was a round of boos when Inge came out on the field.

Ricky seems ok after trying to bare hand a comebacker from Kinsler. Peralta can't make the play after the deflection.

WTF Inge!?!?!? A simple throw to first and you can't even do that!!

Inge has a double play ball and instead of throwing it to 2nd...he waits for the runner, the runner wisely stops and Inge pulls Prince off of the bag when he decides to throw to first. Everyone is safe. And now another base hit makes it 4-0...still no outs.

This could get ugly in a hurry.

There ought to be some pressure on JV tonight to stop the bleeding.
