The Japanese right-hander is 1/3 with a 7.76 ERA in his last five outings. He allowed six runs and a career-high 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 9-2 defeat against Boston on Monday.

Pretty much a regular lineup today. Dirks starts again in place of Berry, batting second. Worth noting that Berry has started once in the past week. Also worth noting that Berry is in an 0-for-10 slump and his batting average has dropped to .274, his lowest average since his second game of the season. Are we seeing Berry’s transition to a bench role, or is that just a casualty of the outfield rotation?
Should be interesting to see how the Tigers approach Yu Darvish in their third meeting. He struck out 10 Tigers over seven innings here at the end of June, but gave up four runs doing it.

Rick Porcello has had tough time in four starts against Texas Rangers.
The Detroit Tigers have had plenty of success in recent weeks with Rick Porcello on the mound. But Porcello has not had much success against the Texas Rangers.
The Tigers have won seven of the past eight games that Porcello (9-6, 4.62 ERA) has started. But Porcello is 2-2 with an 8.47 ERA in four career starts against the Rangers. He 1-1 with an 11.57 ERA in two starts against them this season.
Current members of the Rangers are hitting a combined .361 (35-for-97) with a .944 OPS against Porcello. David Murphy is 8-for-12 with a home run against Porcello, while Ian Kinsler is 7-for-12 with five RBIs. Michael Young is 7-for-15 with six RBIs.
Yu Darvish (11-8, 4.57 ERA) will make his second start against the Tigers this season. He picked up the victory in a start against the Tigers in June. Prince Fielder had two hits, including a home run, against Darvish in that game.

yikes today's lineup combined .ave against Darvish 4 for 36 hope we improve on that today and find away to take this series.

"Dirks starts again in place of Berry"

I think the job is Dirks at the moment, Berry might replace Boesch eventually thou.

There is no logic in Berry starting over either Boesch or Dirks at this time.

Not good, 2 first inning k's and a weak pop up all on ball 4 pitches. wow not good at all, they really let him off the hook already. Suxs up 1-0 in the 4th, Tigers you just can't be hacking away at ball 4 like that. I think i'm going to go hit the course or something cuz I just can't watch this garbage today

Didn't see Jacksons AB, but both Fielder and Cabrera chased pitches nowhere near the strike zone.

AJ let himself get jammed on a 3-1 pitch inside would have been ball 4. I hate watching them when they are over aggressive like this. If I stop watching they'll probably do better so I'm outta here.

According to Rod, Hamilton swings at the first pitch more than anyone in baseball...48% of the time.

lets see, offense is being stupidly aggressive and porcello is sucking as usual. not feeling good about todays game.

I wonder about the mental preparation of this team. I get the feeling that most of the offense goes up with the plan of swinging at anything close and hoping for a cookie. With a pitcher like Darvish with so many different pitches, you should have a clear strategy in mind, which I see little evidence of. Do they actually study tapes of these pitchers?
