Game Preview.

Just the second start at 1B for Miguel Cabrera since June 22. A.J. Hinch said he'd like to get him one start per series at first, which would allow him more flexibility to play Eric Haase at DH and mix in Victor Reyes in OF.

How brilliant is AJ Hinch..
DET ranks 30/30 with 3.9 positional WAR 1.5 WAR behind the 29th ranked KCR..
now add Boyd and Turnbull have been lost from the rotation and 3 rookies and a 32 year old castoff are their rotation plus one of their best RP is constantly injured..

Dear Al..I know you are focused on whatever AJ tells you..thank God..but maybe try and acquire some bullpen depth while other teams are selling..and see what HOU wants for Jeremy Pena.

The last time the Tigers had four or more players with at least 10 or more steals?
2001 Tigers: Cedeno, Easley, Higginson and Macias.
Baddoo/Goodrum/Grossman all have double digits and Hill isn?t too far behind with six.
The 2015 Tigers were the last to feature 5.

Nick Quintana in July
15/44
341/482/636
7 XBH
3 HR
11 RBI
pre July 15/130 4 XBH..
kudos to Nick..for just enduring that much failure and emerging out the other side..

Riley Greene in 260 Double-A plate appearances this season:
(AA competition is on average 4 years older than Greene).
.362 OBP
.278 average
127 wRC+
10.8 BB%
.198 ISO
.837 OPS
10 HR
10 SB
9 2B
3 3B

Twenty years later, it took A. J. Hinch to finally change how the Detroit Tigers play in Comerica, especially with its vast expanses. What took so long?

Do you see what they are doing now? 3 players with elite speed. Lots of extra base hits - and stolen bases, too. Small ball. A variety of ways to win.
No longer a need to rely on the HR in order to win.

Many questioned the old strategy for years. Why didn't anyone within the organization over the past 20 years push for a better strategy that aligned with what worked best for this ballpark? Or was the priority on hitting HRs part of a marketing strategy to attract more fans?

Wily Peralta is a godsend for the Detroit Tigers esp. given the decimated starting rotation. Almost a full 2 years ago, he was released by the Royals and hadn't pitched in MLB until signed by the Tigers this year.
He is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA and an incredible WHIP of .940
His salary? $887,150.

Totally Tigers

Candy thrown out at home. RF for Texas thrown two out so far..

One of those innings that could have been. 1st two guys get out by great plays by Texas, 3 singles thrown out at home.

A lot of people wonder why Jiminez is still on this team. I don't. This guy may have the best stuff of any pitcher on the staff.

But he's been getting many chances and hasn't put it together yet. For a short time maybe but not long term.

I hear ya. I just think that with that arm, I would want the new pitching coach to work with him for one year and an offseason plan to see if they can pull his head out of his ass.

Miggy gives the Tigers bullpen some breathing room with a 3 run Double,

Tigers lead 6 - 0 in the top of the 6th inning,
