Tigers vs. rays Game Thread April 11

There is no question that leaving JV in to start the 9th was the right call. I probably would have pulled him 1 batter earlier but not that bad of a decision. Bringing in Schlereth was a terrible decision. Then bringing in Valverde in a non save situation another terrible decision.

after the first batter reached, valverde should have been in.

What a terrible way for Verlander to lose, he has to be kicking himself.

Verlander has pitched nearly perfect for 16 innings and he's 0-1 to show for it.

well, we should have won today but we should have lost sunday, so i guess we're even. still stings though.

Such a good feeling to have a comeback win...and holy crap does it suck to blow one like this, especially when JV pitches so well through 8. Had to gamecast it while in class, and I was so frustrating while sitting there...ugh. Before the outcome of DS coming in, I may have audibly swore. I know he pitched well against lefties last year (.174), but it just seems like he fails in big situations (might be selective remembering). Ugh...not gonna win them all I guess.

Well that was a great game till the ninth.
JV pitched well and the game was blown by him.

Schlerath sucks. I wonder if his dad will blame tebow for him sucking today?

Oh well it beat work and hanging out with my pops is worth it.

How does Schlerath make this team... He has to be the worst pitcher who always seems to get ahead of the hitter and can never put them away unless the game is a 5 run game either way. When he comes in I know we are in trouble.. Man oh man where are you 2007 Bobby Seay. Tigers need a more reliable lefty out of the pen..

He wasn't even at 90 pitches.

Everybody threw a fit when Verlander didn't start the 9th inning on opening at 105 pitches, no he should have been pulled before reaching 90?

And yes, Schlereth sucks, and should never be brought in high leverage situations, that was just stupid.

Not to mention, who the hell didn't know Maddon would PH a RHH there?

I was wondering why not Coke, he's not pitched that many innings has he?

Pitched an inning yesterday. Maybe they wanted to see of Schereth still sucked or if he had gotten better.

Yeah, but he never got up to throw until JV was already in trouble, the only guys I'd want coming into that situation are Valverde, Benoit, and Coke.

Maybe Dotel, but no way in hell Schlereth or Ballester, or Villareal, or any of the other goons.

I wouldn't want Valverde either.

The guy has one pitch, and he doesn't even have great command of it.

Valverde was 49-49 with a killer ERA. Maybe he stinks this year but we have to wait and find out.

I'm fine with him as the closer, but I would never advocate, not even last year, bringing him in in a situation like that.

I'd rather bring in the best RP in such a situation, and Valverde, even last year, was at best our 3 best RP.

Better than 49-49 2.24? Granted he struggled at times in non-save situations but he certainly was no "3rd best" RP.
