What more can you ask for than Verlander-Price?
from the Tigers official site

As far as pitching matchups go, they don't come much better than this one.
The second game of the four-game series between the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays features a pair of pitchers who are among a handful of candidates to be named the starter for the American League All-Star team.
Justin Verlander (8-4, 2.52 ERA) will start for the Tigers, while the Rays will counter with left-hander David Price (10-4, 2.95 ERA).
Jim Leyland shuffled up his lineup a bit with a left-hander on the mound for the Rays. The switch-hitting Ramon Santiago will start at second base and hit second, while Ryan Raburn is starting in right field with Quintin Berry in left.
Berry, who has been hitting second in the order, is batting ninth. He is hitting .259 in limited at-bats against left-handers and .333 against right-handers.
Gerald Laird is starting behind the plate in place of Alex Avila.
Verlander is 6-2 with a 3.68 ERA in 11 career starts against the Rays. Price is 3-1 with a 2.15 ERA in six appearances, including four starts, against the Tigers. Current Tigers players are hitting a combined .190 (16-for-84) with 29 strikeouts and a .492 OPS against Price.
from Mlive

Leyland had a decision to make on whether to play Quintin Berry against David Price — not only a lefty, but a stingy one (25 strikeouts in 90 plate appearances from left-handed batters). In the end, Leyland opted to start Berry over Brennan Boesch (1-for-3, 2 strikeouts off Price) and Danny Worth (0-for-2 off Price). However, he moved down Berry to the ninth spot, putting Ramon Santiago (3-for-7 off Price) in the two spot.
Former Tiger Will Rhymes gets the start against ex-teammate Justin Verlander.

32 hits the last 2 games. Yeah, let's juggle the lineup.

Price is a lefty, smokes is trying to ensure as many righty bats as possible while also keeping the left bats as broken up as possible. Makes sense to me. wow though Jackson and Miggy only a combined 2 for 22 against price, yikes. That was last years jackson though, let's hope those numbers improve tonight.

Having a guy 2 or 27 this year against lefties batting 2nd makes sense then.

One of the problem umps is behind the plate, bob davidson,
price doesn't need any help in expanding the outside corner for called strikes.

i think the elks game i went to had more people in the stands than the trop. and jv is pitching

23 f'n million a year and Fielder can't handle it,

I don't care if it was a high chop,

here we go another 4 out inning, maybe 5 letting pena get to third with berry not charging the ball in left,

Fielder makes up for it with a nice stop of a grounder with double written all over it,

Watching the rays feed on tv, and was listening to their color guy, sounds like a complete shithead complaining about Verlander getting the strike call that was off the outside corner, but it was alright that price got it on Jackson and Santiago,

Staying with Dan Dickerson and Jim Price.

1-0 and JV throwing a lot of pitches. Looks like Bonderman here in the 1st.

Prince Fielder error changed to single for Carlos Pena. Now 2 hits for Rays this inning.

more bullshit home team official scorer bias.
