Tigers at Reds lineups, Sunday, June 10th: Sunday Night Baseball edition.
from blessyouboystigersblog

Brennan Boesch was a late scratch from Tigers lineup with right ankle sprain from sliding into homeplate Saturday. Quintin Berry now starting in RF and batting 2nd.

Drew Smyly on mound as Tigers face Reds in ESPN game.
The Detroit Tigers have won a game several times in the past month or so. It's winning two in a row that seems to be an issue.
Rookie left-hander Drew Smyly will start on mound tonight as the Tigers try to put together their second winning streak since April 18.
The Tigers have won two or more consecutive games just once since they completed a sweep of the Kansas City Royals on April 18. That streak took place when they won three consecutive games May 25-27 against the Minnesota Twins.
Smyly is 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA this season and will be making his first start against the Reds. Homer Bailey (4-4, 4.39 ERA) will start for Cincinnati.
Just two current Tigers hitters have faced Bailey: Prince Fielder (6-for-17, .353, HR, 3 RBIs, 6 BBs, 1.228 OPS) and Gerald Laird (1-for-1, RBI).
Ramon Santiago is in the starting lineup at shortstop in place of Jhonny Peralta, who was placed on the paternity list prior to the game Saturday.
The Tigers scratched Brennan Boesch from the lineup at about 4:30 p.m. due to a sprained right ankle. Quintin Berry will start in right field and bat second in Boesch's place.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN. It was originally scheduled to be a 1 p.m. game, but the time was changed so it could be the Sunday Night Baseball broadcast on ESPN. First pitch is scheduled for 8:06 p.m.

Another game of starting at shortstop for Ramon Santiago meant another game of starting at second base for Danny Worth.
With Jhonny Peralta into the second of his three possible days on paternity leave, twin girls for Tigers Jhonny Peralta and wife Molly, Santiago was the Tigers' shortstop against the Reds on Sunday.
Manager Jim Leyland had the choice of Worth or Peralta's roster replacement Hernan Perez at second, and while being impressed that Perez didn't look intimidated in his first major-league at-bat as a pinch-hitter in Saturday night's 3-2 victory over the Reds (he grounded out to third), Leyland went with the more experienced Worth.

just spoke with Boesch - he thinks he'll be back by Tuesday vs the Cubs -
available for PH duties tonight.

Boesch says there's no swelling in ankle, just discomfort. "Pretty fairly optimistic" he'll be ready for Tuesday at Wrigley.

I like the speed at the top of the order and the added IF defense. Hoping for another win tonight!

i swear to the dark lord cthulhu if anyone throws votto a hittable pitch tonight im gonna flip a shit.

leyland has said that berry is going to be on the bench once the OF is all healthy again. hopefully that will change if boesch continues to suck ass.

Leyland is an ass, Boesch hasn't hit shit all year. I'd leave Dirks in the 2 hole when everyone comes back and send Boesch to Toledo, and have Berry hit 9th... unless Jackson doesn't hit, and if he doesn't switch Jackson and Berry in the lineup.

I'd play Dirks and Boesch over Berry all day every day . Berry 2 for last 19, coming back down to earth. Boesch and Dirks have much more power than Berry as well.

Boesch has been starting to hit and he has outstanding career numbers in June. I think Berry is going to be brought in for late game duties for either Dirks or Boesch depending on the situation.

People are seriously over-rating Berry.

He plays nice D, and can run like Forrest Gump, but seriously, replace Ajax with him at leadoff if Ajax does not hit? Berry is not hitting much himself, he got off to a hot start, but let's be real.

He's a bench OF'er any way you slice it.

I'd rather see Jackson Second when Berry is in the line up because Jackson has more power, Berry never hits HR's not your typical #2 hitter. Speed first followed by Speed and some occasional power. to simplistic for Jimmy I guess?

Berrys BA slide has already started lol...i agree that were overrating him. Speed and D is nice....hes probably better for our lineup than BB is he continues to not be able to hit. But neither dirks or berry truly belong in the 2 hole. theyre both just band aids cause or line up sucks.

bottom 5 in the order tonight is scary lol. lets hope they can put something together.

Why take Jackson out of his leadoff spot where he's been fantastic this year for a guy who is a bench player when we have a healthy OF?

Nothing simplistic about it, leadoff is more important than #2, and Jackson is a better hitter.

I dunno, if Dirks can maintain what he's done, he's a pretty good #2 guy.

I have to say I'm really surprised ESPN didn't make the Yankees vs Mets the Sunday night game tonight. Nice to see them give the midwest a look.

Pretty rare when every game is a final before the Tigers first pitch is thrown.
