Rick Porcello will be the first Detroit Tigers pitcher to step into the batter's box in a game this season.
Porcello (3-4, 4.86 ERA) will start on the mound Friday night for the Tigers and bat ninth in the order as the Tigers open interleague play against the Cincinnati Reds.
Porcello is 3-for-12 (.250) with two RBIs and five strikeouts in his career.
Porcello is coming off an impressive performance against the New York Yankees on Saturday in what eventually was a dramatic 4-3 victory for the Tigers. He allowed one run on six hits and one walk in six innings pitched while striking out three in that game.
Mat Latos (4-2, 4.91) will pitch against the Tigers for the first time in his career. Prince Fielder, the only current Tigers player who has batted against Latos, is 1-for-6 with a single and a strikeout vs. the right-hander.
