from the Tigers official site

Austin Jackson is not on the bench tonight, but he’s not leading off, at least not in the opening inning. Basically, Jim Leyland dropped Jackson from first to eighth in the order, kept Jose Iglesias ninth, and moved everybody else up. For a manager who has always set the goal of his batting order to get as many guys on base as possible ahead of Cabrera, batting Cabrera second is a very big shift, much bigger than Jackson. It’ll be the first game in the two spot for Cabrera since 2004.
“Basically I just moved everybody up,” Leyland said. “That means in the first inning we’ll have Hunter, who’s had some success [against Peavy], and then I followed it up with two guys who can hit it out of the ballpark. Miguel and Prince will both come up in the first inning. I put Victor behind [Fielder] instead of Victor third because Victor can score Prince [but Victor's baserunning might make tougher the other way around].”

Any word on Victor's knee/quad that he seemed to injure in his final AB?

Didn't see any mention in the Tigers notes thread, too much to hope it was nothing?

Lineup shuffle overdue, better late than never just hope it's not already too late. Tigers and Lions both seem to have the same problem, too slow to make adjustments. Although at least one of the coaches for the Lions surprising did better than usual in this regard last week for the second half. That was a nice unexpected surprise.

the adjustments comment goes to more than just coaches, it applies to the offense just as much if not more. Lackey made adjustments after 1 inning, Tigers just kept chasing away for 8 more innings. well everyone cept Victor, Victor is good. They should all try some sit down sessions with Victor see if he might be able to advise them on how not to press on the big stage.

Get us in boy's... Parent teacher conference plus another apt after....

GO TIGERS!!!!!!

Love you all!!!!!!!!!!

very happy to see us break from our conventional lineup. you don't panic and make drastic changes at the first time of trouble but I think this is the right move given jacksons struggles. I would rather not use Kelly in CF, I think Jackson has as much of a chance of getting on base as Kelly in this matchup and we need the CF defense.

good move, whether it works or not this is better than sticking with the standard lineup

As far as left field goes...is castellanos really worse than this kelly/dirks platoon or is smokes just stubborn? And moving forward. ...would you want beltran as a short term option? Doesnt seem like the cards are going to resign him...

I don't care what order you put them in...just get some hits and score some runs. AJ has had some success against Peavy in the past so it would be nice if he could somehow get a hit or 2 tonight...just for a confidence boost. We can't have this guy hating life right now.

I like the speedy duo of 8-9 also. As much as I hate bunting, If Ajax can get on I like that Iggy can easily move him over into scoring position right before the top of the lineup hits.

Lou Whitaker in the house;
Lou Whitaker on Iglesias wearing No. 1: "You need a No. 1 on the field."
Lou Whitaker on Jose Iglesias wearing No. 1: "He was brave enough to ask for it!"

Whitaker said he hopes Jose Iglesias has a great career wearing #1, just as he did. "I got it as a rookie, and so did he."

Tigers Whitaker: it's not easy being a lead off hitter. Sometimes you can overthink it.

Lou Whitaker in memories of Prince from childhood: "Well, he loved to eat. Always had a hot dog here and a popcorn there."
