It's ridiculous to be implying that Leyland shouldn't have Valverde out there because it wasn't a save situation. Pitching in a tie is pretty damn close if not the same intensity of trying for a save. Closers are notorious for giving up runs when they come in with a 5 run lead, not tie games. This is on Valverde and nobody else. If you haven't noticed, Valverde kind of sucks this season.

LOL 0-2 pitch... right down the middle.... JV is terrible in non save situations. Who cares if he caused it. Know your player. Use the stats you have . Now he will throw over 20 pitches and more then likely we will lose unless we come back and you have burned out your closer.. Bullpen management 101... If your closers is good in non save situations use him... if he is not you don't unless you have to..

sure, with most closers. but valverde has been the opposite for us. he does reasonably well with bigger leads but is absolutely god-awful in tie games. he should never, ever be used in them especially with people left in the bullpen. seriously, where the fuck is marte?
