If you look at what Hinch has been doing..its a slow methodical, performanced based dismantling of the Avila/Chadd/Littlefield prayer circle of players accumulated in failed trades over the last 5 years..notice it took an outsider to cut ties.

The next phase demands Avila do his job and acquire controllable players in any manner available..don't be bamboozled into thinking the minor leagues has all the answers..it doesn't..you needone 900 OPS 3 800 and 2 more 750+ OPS hitters they are miles and years from that.

At least adding Grossman reveals that they now might actually value a player who can occasionally draw a walk.

It has got to be a balancing act for Hinch and even Avila between winning and player development..for different reasons..Hinch wants to win because its his job and he wants to develop a culture..Avila just doesn't wanna get fired..yet needs to see progress with controllable assets.

If he can?t hit LHP, this won?t just be his final days as a Tiger. He?s heading down the Mikie Mahtook path of upper level MiLB depth.
