Tigers vs. twins Game Thread August 13

In fairness Tony, JL had little to do with this game. Yeah, he could have sat Boesch. Then again, what if BB was/is finally coming out of his coma?! Yeah, Delmon has been a rally killer lately but the dude can bat when he gets his head outta his ass. Our SP has been so-so & when they have good games the bats get strangely quiet. Finally, this is Minnesota. Games like this is why I hate them even more than the White Sux.
But still, JL is highly over-rated. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional imo. But tonight? Yesterday? Casey F'n Stengel/Tony LaRussa and/or anyone else from today or history could not have saved the Tig's the past 2 games. Sad but true.

I respect your opinion, brother. I'm just saying the Coke situation was a PRIME example why the game has come and gone for Leyland. That's all...

Tigers optioned Duane Below to Toledo following tonight's game. sacrificial lamb.

Luke Putkonen will be recalled from Toledo on Tuesday.
i can somewhat understand below going down, maybe he'll actually get some work in down there.

bringing up putzkonen is fucking retarded though.

can I go to f'n bed without this amatuer hour crap with you two??
Tigers lost, we're all bullshit,

don't take it out on each other.

Opponents hitting .380 vs. Anibal Sanchez in his first four starts for Tigers.
Six hits is fewest ever (22 games) for Tigers at Target Field. In the previous 21 games, they averaged 11 hits.

Nothing amateur about it, KC. Just 2 fellas having a little bit of baseball banter between each other...i mean no harm..lol.

Never said that but stop defending the senile old bastard. You look retarded in doing so. You're smarter than that. man...i know it.

Coke comes out, righty comes in vs righty. This game could have been maybe 3-1 and they get out of the inning. Instead the Twins OPENED it up like a fresh gash and made the game out of reach. What the fuck don't you get?

Again, I'm not defending Leyland.

It was stupid, borderline 36-hour involuntary psych-hold, stupid, move to let Choke face another RHB.

But it's moot.

Nah Ron, you can go to bed.

I was having a discussion with Tony, and we were keeping it civil, I'll just ignore the other.

I'm headed to bed myself anyhow.
I must have missed in the "terms of agreement" where it said I couldn't disagree with you. My bad.

ok...we'll agree to disagree.

Let's get 'em tomorrow!!

The manager is responsible for one thing, getting a W. Is it his fault Sanchez gave up 5 or the BP blew or the hitting sucked? No. But it falls on the manager, right or wrong. Fair or unfair. But there are things you can fault Leyland for, for example bringing in Valverde in a non save situation, batting Delmon 5 and so forth.

The manager will be gone when/if the key players tune him out. Managers are overrated as the reason why teams win and lose.

Anyone think that Mayo Smith was "instrumental" in '68? Anderson in "84?"

I think Sparky was in '84. You look at that time, at least at first glance, it wasn't strong top to bottom. I don't buy the completely or not "instrumental" or else why have a manager? Go back to the days of player manager.

35-5 was not the manager's doing. Neither was winning 35+games after trailing in the 7th inning.

Managers make mistakes and right decisions, but they don't always play out that way. And I don't know how you can credit Sparky and not Mayo. That team, like all teams, had holes, too.

And yet as I pointed out in the Leyland thread Mitch, the players this year out of a few have been generally bad. Yet we're still in the thick of the playoff hunt and the central title.

It's interesting how Leyland gets the blame for our shortcomings, but 0 credit when were doing well. Not that he should get any at all of either.

My position is actual wins and losses have very little to do with the manager, and everything to do with the players.

Regardless of how it looked at first glance, the 84 team was very strong top to bottom.

Very, very deep, no weaknesses in the starting lineup, strong defense in the middle, even some their bench players performed at a high level.

Their rotation was solid, and the back end of the bullpen was terrific.

This argument is goofy. The '84 team was a championship-caliber ballclub. They probably could have been managed by Tiger Stadiums' janitor.

The more I watch the more I realize that this team just isn't a championship caliber ballclub.
There's the stars JV, Cabby, and Fielder and then a whole lotta AAAA garbage.

I think AJ and Fister are also very good players. The problem is the rest of the team is garbage. 3 offensive players and 2 pitchers don't make a team.

Yeah I guess I shouldn't have forgotten about AJax. He should be getting serious consideration for comeback player of the year.

Fister now that he's healthy looks a lot more like what we traded for last summer.

But yeah...5 players don't win championships on their own...
