Tigers vs. twins Game Preview.

Another day, another hitter in the fifth spot. This time, it’s Jhonny Peralta batting behind Prince Fielder against Twins lefty Brian Duensing, who has allowed a .322 average to right-handed hitters this year compared to .239 from left-handed batters. The OPS difference is exactly 200 points (.834 righties, .634 lefties).
No hitter has done more against Duensing than Peralta, 10-for-22 lifetime off of him with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. Most of that damage came last season, when he went 5-for-8 with three doubles and five RBIs.
Meanwhile, Jeff Baker starts in right field in place of Brennan Boesch. Andy Dirks gets the lefty-against-lefty start tonight.

Jhonny Peralta becomes fourth player in four days to bat fifth.
For the fourth time in as many days, a different Detroit Tigers player will bat fifth.
Tonight, it'll be Jhonny Peralta.
Peralta will bat fifth tonight for the second time this season -- a day after Alex Avila tried out the spot Monday night.
Peralta gets the nod over Delmon Young due to his success at Target Field against a starting pitcher he's hit hard throughout his career. Peralta is 10-for-22 lifetime with a homer, three doubles and seven RBIs off left-hander Brian Duensing.
Tuesday's lineup a clear sign that Tigers manager Jim Leyland will continue to experiment with his order as Brennan Boesch and Young try to work out of season-long slumps.
It will be the 92nd different lineup Leyland has made up in 117 games.
The Tigers have rotated eight different players in the No. 5 spot this year -- led by Young, who batted fifth behind Prince Fielder in 95 games this year.
Young will bat sixth tonight as the Tigers continue their three-game series against the host Minnesota Twins. It'll be the third straight game Young bats sixth -- and eighth time in his last 13 games.
Leyland has stacked tonight's lineup with right-handers, including Jeff Baker, who will make his third start for the Tigers and the second in right field. He's batting seventh behind Andy Dirks, who gets the start in left field over Quintin Berry.
Berry has only made one start since Aug. 5 and will be available off the bench, along with left-handed hitters Boesch and Alex Avila and switch-hitter Ramon Santiago.

Jeff Baker will get his third start with the Tigers in right field as Detroit tries to climb out of another slump tonight against the Twins.
In addition, shortstop Jhonny Peralta will bat fifth, leftfielder Andy Dirks eighth and catcher Gerald Laird ninth.
Doug Fister takes the mound for Detroit with a 6-7 record and a 3.48 ERA. But he's been particularly good after the All-Star break (4-1, 1.79 ERA).
The Twins counter with Brian Duensing (2-7, 4.46 ERA). He lost in his lone start vs. Detroit, 5-1 on July 4 when he dueled Justin Verlander, giving up two runs in 4.1 innings.
Peralta is 10-for-22 off Duensing with a home run, which may be why he was put in the No. 5 slot tonight. Austin Jackson is 5-for-18, Miguel Cabrera is 7-for-28 with two home runs and Prince Fielder is 2-for-5.

Tonight, the role of the Tigers' No. 5 hitter will be played by Jhonny Peralta.
Peralta will bat fifth with the Twins sending a left-hander, Brian Duensing, to the mound.
The Tigers have struggled to find production from the fifth slot all season, and recently got Delmon Young out of the slot in favor of Brennan Boesch and, on Monday, Alex Avila.
Now, it's Peralta's turn, as the Tigers play Game 2 of a three-game series at Target Field.
It's the second time Peralta has batted fifth this season; he also did April 11.
