Day off for Nick Castellanos after an 0-for-4, four-strikeout game Thursday night. Mike Aviles gets his second consecutive start after going 2-for-4 with a double. Aviles also has more at-bats against Carlos Rodon than anyone else on the Tigers roster (granted, it’s still just seven at-bats). With Castellanos sitting, J.D. Martinez moves back to the fifth spot in the batting order behind Victor Martinez, allowing Cameron Maybin to hit second.
On the White Sox side, Alex Avila gets the start behind the plate in his return to Comerica Park.

Detroit Tigers Gameday: Jordan Zimmermann back in rotation for opener vs. White Sox.
Mlive

Game notes: This is Jordan Zimmermann's return from a groin strain suffered May 22 vs. the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander was able to avoid the disabled list but had to skip a start. ...
This is the Tigers' first meeting against the White Sox this season. Chicago began the season hot, leading the American League Central for much of April and early May, but has since struggled. ...
Though the 23-year-old Carlos Rodon has won just one game since April 13, he has pitched better of late, giving up two or fewer earned runs in each of his past three starts. ...
Fox Sports Detroit's John Keating will take over play-by-play duties on the radio tonight for Dan Dickerson, who is attending his son's high school graduation. ...
Wide receiver Marvin Jones, who signed with the Detroit Lions this off-season, will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Two out single gets a run for the sox. Tigers could not get the two out single with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Keating is filling in for Dickerson and gave the worst home run call I've ever heard for the McCann homer. lol

Tigers name pitcher, player of month:
Justin Verlander was named the Tigers Pitcher of the Month for May.
Verlander had a 2-3 record, 3.16 ERA and struck out 46 during 42 2/3 innings in six games during May, when opponents batted .185. The 46 strikeouts were tied for the AL lead in May.

Cabrera is the Player of the Month after a vote among media members.
Cabrera hit .333 with eight homers, 20 RBIs, 14 walks, 12 extra-base hits and 16 runs scored in 102 at-bats during 28 games.

Isn't Alex Wilson the leader in the Tigs bullpen in allowing inherited runners to score?

Not that time....thanks for expanding the outside corner ump.

Is every one on this team a brain dead base runner?!. Or do they need a better 3rd base coach?

Good to see McCann with 3 hits today. Hopefully it's a sign that his bat is heating up.

Tigers announce the Cabrera left the game with lower back tightness and is day-to-day. Might have tweaked it on the swing of up and in pitch.

That's exactly when he did it. You could tell right away he tweaked something in his back. I'm geussing he'll be fine though. A little heat and a massage and they'll have him ready.

He was day to day earlier in the season and played the next day. If he can swing a bat he'll play. McCann inching closer to the .500 OPS mark.

Nice to see the bullpen keep the game safe even with JZ not making it a full 6 innings.
