With Avila's health in question it's nice to not have a scrub backing him up. I just wish he handled the pitchers a little better.

Also just realized Iggy's OBP is better than all but two Tigers (Miggy and Tui).

Not sure why so many get on Pena's defensive game. He's actually got better defensive #'s than Avila. It's also not surprising that the team ERA is a tick higher given the fact that this is his first year catching these guys.

Not his defensive numbers, how he handles the pitchers. The pitchers have significantly better numbers when Avila pitches vs Pena; Avila calls a much better game than Pena does. Remember how bad the staff pitched when Avila went on the DL earlier this year?

Like I said though, this is his first year catching these pitchers. Of course they are gonna be more comfortable with how Avila calls the game. They know him much better.

I've been happy as shit with Pena this year.
