As explained earlier, the Tigers brought back another right-handed hitting outfielder in Ryan Raburn. However, while Francisco Liriano marks the first of back-to-back left-handers the Tigers will be facing, Brennan Boesch is 5-for-11 off of him. Thus, Boesch gets the start.
Here’s the catch, though: Boesch is the designated hitter, batting second. Delmon Young is in left field. Miguel Cabrera, who seemed like a strong candidate to DH tonight, is at third base. Avisail Garcia will make his first Major League start in right field, batting eighth.
On the White Sox side, Adam Dunn has been scratched, reportedly with a right oblique he injured earlier in the week. Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports Dunn hopes to return to the lineup Sunday night.
from Jason Beck

Rookie Avisail Garcia made his major league debut Friday night. But he will see his first real action -- and his first major league at-bat -- Saturday night against the Chicago White Sox.
Garcia will start in right field and bat eighth for the Tigers with left-hander Francisco Liriano (5-10, 5.06 ERA) on the mound for the White Sox.
Miguel Cabrera will start at third base. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Friday night that he would have to think about his lineup regarding Cabrera, implying that he would decide between using him as the designated hitter or starting him at third base.
Cabrera has been slowed by a right ankle injury and was clearly affected by it Friday night. At the same time, he finished with three hits, including a double and a two-run home run.
Delmon Young is starting in left field with Brennan Boesch batting second as the designated hitter. A start for Boesch at DH against a left-hander might seem strange, but Boesch is 5-for-11 (.455) with a double and four RBIs against Liriano.
Max Scherzer (14-6, 4.13 ERA) will start for the Tigers.

Leyland said Dotel is only question mark in bullpen tonight.

Raburn back with Tigers - but sore right quad had him in trainers' room right away.

no Adam donkeyDung in White Sox lineup vs Tigers - he has a sore right oblique.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland on Miguel Cabrera's sore right ankle:
"I feel bad, because I can see Cabrera wince at times, when he has to move a certain way, or something. I feel bad.
"He?s a tough son of a gun. He doesn?t cheat you. He earns his money.
"Prince Fielder, those two guys ? and I don?t want to look like I?m just talking about those two, because I?m not; I love this team ? but those two guys, they?re something special.
"They earn their paychecks. They work their ass off, they bust their ass. I?m going to check with Prince ? he might be a little sore today. But those guys are tough.

I don't understand Boesch DH.

Or having him bat second.

In fact... the whole fucking lineup has me wondering if Jimmy went on a bender last night and let some hooker fill the card out for him.

seriously, its one of the worst fucking lineups ive seen all year. boesh at dh and 2nd? young in the field? no dirks? hell, id play mudhen over boesch at this point, play him in the field over young, and hit him 9th. he was hot in toledo and boesch is fucking awful.

id play laird tonight too. avila is in an abysmal slump and shouldnt be seeing lefties at all.

And wasn't Infante supposed to hit #2 vs. lefties?

Scherzer pitching 1st inning,

wise reaches off the corner and pokes a single to left,

FFyousukilis strikes out swinging, sit down you ugly mo'fo,

pospierzynski fly to center and has it, right to the warning track this crumb has to be juicing,

konerko strikes out swinging,

Blue Eye Max with 14 pitches,

Guys, Leyland says his reason for batting Boesch 2nd he is 5 for 11 vs. liriano?
it's still stupid,

You know he loves those small sample sizes. Boesch is 5-11 off Liriano. Hell, Delmon should be batting cleanup tonight. He's 3-5 with a homer!!

Tigers need Jackson to get going again. He hasn't been all that good since the asb. Surprised to see Cabrera in the field tonight, he'll probably be at DH tomorrow. Excited to see Garcia but he looks exactly like a Tigers prospect--strikes out too much, can't draw a walk. Does anyone know if he is supposed to be a good fielder?

Boesch walked so it's working out so far. Watching the WGN cast of the game with Stone and Harrelson. "Sit back and strap in!"

That was fucking hilarious when Fielder held up 2 fingers. That's why umps shouldn't get excited to make a call.

Tigers batting 1st inning,

Jackson strikes out swinging low slider/ or screwball, chased low,

Boesch taking outside 3 and 0, strike inside, low outside with a walk,

just wait this guy out, don't chase his slop,

Cabrera strike call?? outside f'n pierzuynski pulled his glove in a half a foot, FU ump fieldin cumbreath, fouled back, fly to right,

Prince takes way outside, slider looks off the corner but strike call, check swing ball, in the dirt and Boesch takes second on the wild pitch, another strike outside and the f'n dope ump thought it was strike three full count outside for a walk, what a buffoon this ump is,

Young first pitch swinging?? yep changeup down fouled back, foul tips another, popped to second,

liriano 22 pitches,
