Justin Verlander on mound as Tigers attempt to pull into first-place tie.
The Detroit Tigers have closed the gap on the Chicago White Sox with two victories this weekend.
One more and they will have closed the gap entirely.
If the Tigers beat the White Sox this afternoon they will pull into a first-place tie with with the White Sox with the reeling Cleveland Indians coming to town Monday to start a three-game series.
If the Tigers lose today, they will trail the White Sox by two games in the standings.
Justin Verlander (12-7, 2.80 ERA) will start for the Tigers. The Chicago White Sox will counter with a Cy Young Award candidate of their own in left-hander Chris Sale (15-5, 2.81 ERA).
For the second consecutive game, Delmon Young will be in left field and Brennan Boesch will be the designated hitter. Boesch has one hit and three strikeouts in five career at-bats against Sale. That one hit was a three-run home run.
Gerald Laird will start at catcher. Laird is 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and a walk against Sale. Alex Avila is 1-for-6 against Sale.

Justin Verlander is 11-1 with a 2.32 ERA in his last 12 starts against the WhiteSox.

More BP power - Cabrera just hit a ball off the roof of the center field camera shed. Miggy4MVP.

What am I doing here! I thought I gave up on em after the KC sweep!. Is this game still on FOXD as well? Or just ESPN2

On September 2, 2011, the Detroit Tigers won the first of what would become a 12 game winning streak.
Let's do it again!!!

Boesch though???

Who knows? BB is only 1-5 (but it was a HR) and Dirks is 0-2 against Sale. BB had a triple last night so maybe he's playing the "hunch." But I do think Dirks gets into the game tonight...maybe it will even be for BB.

The velocity of BB swings have looked a little better last couple of games, maybe he finally has it sorted out.

I believe the Twins had a GS yesterday, Tigers now the only team without a GS this year now?

What is that the 3rd or 4th time the lead off man has gone deep off JV this year? I'm starting to wonder if he's becoming to predictable with the game plan. Maybe it's time to start mixing it up again.

espn said thats only the 2nd ever leadoff homer off of JV.

they may have meant 2nd of the season, its not like many espn people are smart.

JVs fastball command seems to me lacking again tomorrow.

Verlander fans Konerko for 200th SO in '12. He & Scherzer are first pair of Tigers w/ 200+ SO in season since Lolich/Coleman in '73.

Verlander with 20 pitches.
