Tigers vs. yankees ALDS Game 5 Thread Oct. 6

I don't know. Maybe in the end, doing what he does gets players like Santiago, Kelly, Dirks and the like more prepared for situations like this? If you look at the numbers its the big guys who aren't contributing.

Besides the depth/length of the lineup, the yankees have done their due diligence of scouting the Tigers hitters weaknesses.
Tigers hitters need to make adjustments.

Normally I would not want Kelly hitting lower then 7th, but he's hot right now...and a speedy devil, something Maggs is not.

Maggs in the top 3 almost always ends with him getting on base, then then getting doubled off second easily on a ground ball, he's not even fast enough for a takeout slide to try to protect the 3 hitter running to first.

There really is not much of an argument to be made for Maggs over Kelly there.

Santiago would be more optimal, assuming he has a better game than last time, but only because he usually does not suck at sacrificing.

Jhonny - no way.
Alex - nope.

If we lose I may be pissed, but it won't be because of the lineup.

Santiago hasn't been getting the bunt down. One time it worked, he got a single. The other time, no, he popped up.

The Game 5 matchup will mark the seventh time the Tigers have played in a postseason series that has gone the maximum number of games. The Tigers are 2-4 in such games.

They won Game 7 in the 1945 and 1968 World Series. The Tigers lost Game 7 of the 1909, 1934 and 1940 World Series as well as Game 5 of the 1972 American League Championship Series.

its just so damn frustrating. he's such a good player and clubhouse manager but such an abysmal game manager.

I know man, just have some adult beverages and an aspirin bottle nearby.
that reminds me, i need to buy some beer. im all out.

Like he said, the long guy is Scherzer so he can eat some innings.

I agree. We just have to face it that we have way below average players at 3b, 2b, and now rf since Boesch is out. I am a little surprised that JLs love affair with mudhen hasn't manifested itself in the playoffs. He still may pinchhit but there is nowhere to hide his glove.

Surprises me some as well,, mostly because of all the rejects he's been hitting the best.its weird, 1st half he plays all the time (plays poorly), 2nd half plays much better (sits more often).

DY with the big night tonight.

It is very nice to hear that we won't be seeing Perry et al, If I were smokes though I would let Perry warm up several times just to mess with the Yankees. If you are in the on deck circle and you see that clown warming up and then end up having to face someone that actually belongs in the big leagues it really has to mess you up.

Amidst all this griping and moaning about Kelly we forget that he was one Granderson catch away from possibly being the hero of game 4 and the series...

That game would have gone a lot differently if that gets over grandy's head. Kelly hasn't been too bad in this series.

If we lose, it will definitely have nothing to do with the lineup. So bitch about it all you want, but it really doesn't matter.

Mitch[/color]]Been like that all year bro. Why would he change now.

I knew Jackson would be leadoff and Young would bat 3rd.

Don Kelly sucks.

He should not start a playoff game for any team.

Batting him 2nd is inexcusable.

Yes there is.

Maggs is a better hitter, and the 2nd spot is more important.

As for speed, it's more valuable lower in the order.
