Tigers Hitters vs. hughes. Cabrera 9 for 20 2 doubles, 4 homeruns, Victor 6 for 15, Jhonny 7 for 18.

Yankees are starting Phil Hughes today, in case you hadn’t heard. As you can see from a lot of the splits below, that’s not the greatest of matchups for the Tigers. Ramon Santiago, 0-for-7 off Hughes), gets his first start of the year in place Omar Infante, 0-for-4 off Hughes.
Today will be the first of back-to-back starts for Santiago, whom Jim Leyland plans to play at shortstop tomorrow in place of Jhonny Peralta, given Peralta’s struggles against CC Sabathia. Leyland’s remarks when asked about Santiago and any progress this year following winter ball would suggest he’s trying to get a spark.
“I haven’t really seen the effects of that so far,” Leyland said of Santiago, who went 6-for-24 with four walks, a home run and eight RBIs in an injury-shortened Spring Training. “That’s why he’s playing the next couple games, to see what he’s got. He’s a big part of our team and has been in the past, did not have a good year last year, started out OK in winter ball but did not finish real good. So we’ll have to just see how that plays out.”

Damn it, that's right...the 4 pm Eastern Time starts aren't carried on the subscription package...

Why is Santiago getting a start over a .429 Omar?

:hmm:

I agree. I normally don't comment on the line up at all because I think too much is made out of it. But we are on the 5th game of the year and we already had a day off after the first game. Omar should be playing today. Santiago can play tomorrow for Peralta. Ramon is 0-6 vs Hughes.

Now go out and do something big Ramon!

LOL, yes hopefully he makes smokes look like a genius, I just always hate seeing anyone with a hot bat given a day off.

Sounds like Alex Avila's wife just gave birth.
Nick Avila ‏@NickAvila31 .....Avery Noelle Avila.

Congrats to the Avila family!

Sounds like Alex might leave for the hospital miss today, and/or be off on Sunday.
Brayan Pena would start, and Kelly would be the backup.

Too early for scoreboard watching...but it looks like the White Sox are going to beat King Felix today.

Tigers receiving their AL championship rings in pregame ceremony.
Not sure if Brennan Boesch is going to be a part of this or not.

Dang KC! I've never noticed you to rant like that. I agree about Carver and Buck but I like the MLB guys. Knowledgeable and entertaining....IMO.

Scherzer pitching 1st inning,

gardner with a long enough atbat flys to Jackson,

cano Max throwing fastballs, until a changeup is fouled back, slider low, fouled back, another long at bat, grounder foul, letter high fastball swings and misses,

yousuckilis strike call, fastball away, now he's hbp fastball in,

hafner 2 and 2, check swing strike three on a changeup,

Max with 22 pitches,

well bdtay, Harold is a good guy, but that thing he always says, gets me, millar it's a redsox thing with me, Vasgersian is ok, I used to like what brian Kenny used to say on espn, one of the few along with Kurkjian, but once he got on mlbnetwork he has gone off a cliff with sabr numbers and how he dismissed Cabrera last year.
