What could it hurt??? This team needs a spark. He's our best position prospect. Move Miggy to 1st, Fielder to DH, and get the fuck rid of DY. Martinez isn't coming back any time soon...they can worry about the DH role later...

You wanna move up a kid who's playing A+ ball all the way to MLB in hope that will make us better?

Uhhhh....I need a drink now.

If the Tigers do anything with Castellanos, it would likely be a promotion to Erie in the next 3/4/5 weeks instead of later in the minor league season.
Everything said about him is he has great hands that he trusts with his swing, has doubles power that will become more homerun power as he matures that is physically, third base play is good, but needs improvement with positioning of his feet.

Brand new Scouting Report on Nick Castellanos
http://baseballprospectnation.com/20...s-3b/#more-712

Rebbiv posted this in the minor leagues thread. Mark has this site and also is at TigsTown, so if anyone knows the Tigers minor leaguers it is him.
and there are several other Tigers minor league followers who blog at various Tigers blog sites, that follow first hand visual, or word of mouth from scouts etc.

Personally, I don't think you can rush him, he needs more time, hitting, fielding, seeing better pitches and competition.
My interpretation, If all goes according to plan, is a 2013 September callup, and 2014 at 3rd, Cabrera and Fielder split 1B and DH.

Miggy is not going back to first base and Prince isn't going to be a full time DH anytime soon. That's not going to happen.

I say put Alex on the DL and give that Brantley kid a look from double A ball. He is batting .306/.352/.463/.815., need to rest AA's knees and maybe a rest will get him going... At 22 he is blocked right now at catcher by Alex so we might as well showcase him for a trade possibility.. I mean Alex is really struggling.. But then 7 of 9 starters are below their career average. Only Dirks and Jackson are above their career totals.

Not necessarily saying he'd automatically make us better but he couldn't make us worse.

The team needs a spark...they're as stale as a bagel that's been sitting out on the counter all week...

But he is in the low minors so its not like he's been in Double-A for two season or a Triple-A guy. Sometimes you need to let young kids learn. And he needs to learn 3B a bit more rather than playing him as an OF/DH which is where he'd be playing in Detroit.

No, no, no, no, and no. This kid is in A right now, if he was in AA or AAA I would instantly think he is worth a shot, but he hasn't seen good pitching yet.

Just.

Not.

Smart.

So I guess the Washington Nationals are the only team allowed to let prospects practically bypass the minors. I get it...

When you have a prospect of the caliber of Harper sure.

But Castellanos is that' kind of prospect.

Harper is like Griffey and A-Rod were in the 90's, he's the kind of prospect with that kind of potential.

Those prospects are rare, incredibly rare, Castellanos isn't that good.

How's Heyward working out for Atlanta?

They fucked up that kids development by rushing him up, now Mr. 5 Tool Super-Star is hitting .237 with a sub .750 OPS

this. Castellanos isnt the next Al Kaline, he needs more time in the minors. ffs, his power hasnt even developed yet.

as for a closer-to-home comparison, how about porcello and bonderman? we fucked them up by bringing them up too early. bondo is out of baseball with his 2 pitches and porcello struggles mightily if his one good pitch is off. we should be glad that turner and castellanos are still in the minors working out their kinks.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree here, I guess.

Isn't he still striking out quite a bit in the low minors?

Oh I love seeing the young kid come up... Who knows maybe we can catch lightning in the bottle.. But where are you going to play Castellanos... he has played all 41 games at 3rd base.. They would have to move Miguel back to first and DH Prince.. The kid is tearing it up at Lakeland which is Advanced A ball. 411/.472/.549/1.021 He has 14 Doubles, 2 triples, and 2 Homers out of his 72 Hits. He does have 28 Rbi's in 45 games. it may be to early.. But Brantly is in Double A and hitting as a catcher..Alex my need a blow for his knees..
