It's clear that Titus Young's first unofficial suspension did not catch his attention. So what are we to expect from his second? I don't have my hopes up.

As you probably have heard by now, the Detroit Lions already have declared Young inactive for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans. He was sent home from the team facility for behavior reasons Monday, the second time that's happened in six months, and he probably won't even practice over the next few days.

Those close to the team say Young has been a brooding malcontent for much of this season, routinely lining up wrong and sulking when he's unhappy with ball distribution. His attitude and mental miscues have become "unacceptable," coach Jim Schwartz told reporters, and it sent receivers coach Shawn Jefferson into a sideline rage late in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

(Schwartz confirmed Jefferson's rage was not directed at offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, despite appearances on television, and said the two have no issues.)

Young is apparently unhappy with a role that has seen him play more snaps (620, via Pro Football Focus) than any Lions pass-catcher besides receiver Calvin Johnson. After 11 weeks of the season, it appears Schwartz is no longer having it.

"When you are a player," Schwartz said, "it's your job to make the team happy, not the team's job to make you happy."

According to Schwartz, Young was lined up wrong on a second-down play near the goal line late in the fourth quarter Sunday, and the ensuing confusion contributed to right tackle Gosder Cherilus jumping offside. The Lions benched Young for the final series of the game.

Young is still only 23 years old, but he has a history of behavior problems dating back to a 2008 suspension while a sophomore at Boise State. I've been covering the NFL for 13 years and I can't think of a player who was sent home twice from a practice facility as if he were a child. Young has excellent skills as a receiver and the Lions used a second-round draft choice on him, but I'm not sure he's a good enough player to continue putting up with. His issues are obviously deep-seated and the Lions shouldn't allow him back until he has thoroughly dealt with them.

It's hard to imagine that process taking place in a week's time. Young has now blown the second chance the Lions gave him this spring after he punched safety Louis Delmas during an offseason workout. Rare is an NFL player, especially a non-superstar, who gets three chances with one team. The Lions would have been totally justified in cutting him Monday and it's still possible he'll never play for them again. Sometimes, you have to cut your losses and I think the Lions are as close as they could possibly be without having already done it.

Related: Schwartz said that left tackle Jeff Backus is doubtful for Thursday's game because of a leg injury, spelling the likely end of Backus' 186-game streak of consecutive starts. Cornerback Drayton Florence probably also won't be available after being diagnosed with a concussion.

Knuckle head or not, they can't afford to cut him..not with Burelson going down and CJ being banged up. I personally am tired of his shit, and am very happy the coaching staff isn't putting up with it, but they do need him...that's part of why Im so frustrated with the kid. He is to stupid to realize that in one or two years he could be getting 80+ catches a year being the robin to CJs batman.

Well we always complain about players being held accountable. At least here's an example. The funny thing is none of us would have ever known that he makes those mistakes.

This season is over. If they think they can change him he is worth keeping. If not I think you cut his ass right now!

nobody NEEDS a 38 yard per game haedache..which is what he has averaged over both of his first two years......i guess we need him to turn into what he's supposed to...but the odds of that happening are looking slim to none..sad..but oh well i guess..what can we do..

What's his contract? Any chance they could even squeeze a 6th round pick out of somebody?

Mike Thomas is light years past what titus is at this point. The trade that was a head scratcher at the time is beginning to be more clear.

Which means the Lions are going to draft a WR with one of their first two picks next year.

Guarantee schwartz is already scouting marqise lee on YouTube and drooling with the thought of him being our 2nd rd pick lol

The broyles pick just keeps looking smarter and smarter despite the head scratching at the time. Mayhew better start improving his drafts immediately or he is simply MM Jr. U have to properly analyze character and attitude, talent isn't everything and is actually nothing when character and attitude do not push a guy to be even better than his raw talent alone.

it depends..if the lions want an explosive offense..then they need explosive playmakers..they still only have one..calvin..our other one..is probably done for his career with concussions...whether it be a more athletic TE, super play RB..or a big time receiver..if offense is the way we want to go...then we need to get a go to second option..currently we have none..or...we can live with the heaves to calvin late in games for years...and we don't have time to take a 5th rounder out of wofford and wait for him to develop..calvin is in his prime NOW..if its not a passing option..we at least have to get it in our backfield...nobody can take advantage of their 1 on 1's..or the 6 man boxes..

Titus was saying all the right things and was so positive and upbeat about being a lion and getting a chance in the league. Its done nothing but go down from there....

The simple fact its got to be all about him everytime the guy catches a first down with the stupid pointing to the sky on every catch. its ridiculous. He doesnt get many chances but when hes given chances theres way too many instances of something bad happening lol....he either drops it, catches it and acts like a retard, or gets a penalty for being dumb. Last year it was the personal foul. Last week it was the lining up wrong followed by the push off. Hes not good enough to be a drama queen. diva my ass....queen is the correct desrciptive word.

Titus won't amount to sh$t in detroit because as long as cj is here, he will always be the focal point of the offense. If he could manage to stick around long enough for the offense to turn "high octane" (which isn't looking like this year), he would see more than enough balls thrown his way.

I knew he wasn't shit when nate went down and he played his ass off the next game. He's a bitch, selfish, and needs another good game by the end of the season so that potential can be used as trade bait.

This dude is T.O. And Keshawn Johnson without the stats. Keeping him is gonna suck. Getting rid of him is gonna suck. I'd rather they get rid of him. They have one less receiving target on the field when he acts out, which is apparently ALL THE TIME.

Yay! So you mean we wasted a 2nd round pick on a number three WR who is also a total asshole and a Head case? Yay!

Our 2 nd round picks over the years have been as bad or worse than our 1st round picks. At least we admitted the mistake to ourselves early and drafted another WR in the 2nd.

Broyles is hands down better in the slot and was drafted to play there. Titus was drafted to play on the outside and stretch the field vs single coverage opposite cj. But....he doesn't. He cant beat man v man, and he doesnt stretch the field deep. He was drafted to be torrie smith....we didnt get a torrie smith.

lol exactly! Which is why the offense wouldn't look any worse if he weren't out there on the field. Hopefully management mans up when they have to suck up the fact that certain players just didn't pan out in the draft. Again...........and again.

Sigh....maybe some day we'll have good enough scouts and talent evaluators to know that a player can't beat man coverage, can't stretch the field, and has character issues before we waste a 2nd round draft pick on him. We could have had Torrey Smith with that pick. We also could have gotten a starting Corner, Safety, or Center. It's the opportunity costs of these busts that kills me. The 2011 NFL draft was a deep one. At least it looks like Fairley is panning out and Leshoure is a decent NFL back.
