Today's example of Christians behaving badly

while I was aware of the fact that the Anglican/Episcopal church was more or less just "Catholicism except the King or Queen of England doesn't have to do what the Pope says and priests can marry," I did not know that Anglican/Episcopal priests were also called priests.

learn something new everyday.

There are substantial and irreconcilable differences between the Catholic Church and the Anglican and Episcopal churches to the point that Judaism in virtually all respects is more closely related to the Catholic Church than are these two offshoots.

Is that a good thing?

newsflash: they're ALL human inventions

I was trying to set byco up but it looks like he's refusing to take my bait.

For the sake of this point I'm going to establish that it is unknowable whether all religions are human inventions or whether Judaism and Catholicism are a divinely inspired progression and it's irrelevent this point anyway.

For this point we're going to focus on that which is known and we're going to follow the path of logic and reason.

Hundreds of thousands to millions of Catholics are leaving Catholicism and joining Jewish brethren who believe in following the pathway of Judaism yet recognizing Jesus as the Messiah. It's basically Judaism with an asterisk-oh BT dubs- Jesus is the Messiah. Their basic believe is that Catholicism has strayed too far from Judaism that is not representative of Jesus at all.

This in mind, how can it be argued and then that the movement to Messianism is not the next step in the divine progression?

One thing for sure-it cannot be argued that Judaism is A man made invention when it was just argued that Judaism is part of a divine natural progression.

I think it's inferred. I'm not much of an advocate for Ecumenical "understanding."

OK.

Obviously I had started to post 468 before I saw this reply.

The point in 468 still applies of course I just would have replied to the post I am replying to here.

Post 468 augers in like Napoleon at the helm of a Piper Cub.

Don't understand what that supposed to mean, but it comes off like someone who has nothing creditable to say saying anything as opposed to saying nothing.

Also I think it was Spartacus who famously flew the piper cub.

It means that Eric Stratton was more effective in stringing together his syllogisms than was post 468. Or maybe that's a flight number. It was doomed from taxi, I'll say that. Plus, I'm addressing someone who has zero interest in learning more about Catholicism, so I'm going to reciprocate.

All I'll say about Messanicism, or whatever it's called, is that it's another in a long line of heresies that began right about the time that Longinus pierced Jesus On The Cross with the Lance. A special brand, I'll grant, in that it folds back on itself.

So the heresies against Catholicism started even before it existed?

The Church was born when Longinus was doused with Christ's Blood and Water is my point.

So the church began even before the resurrection?

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

But it's hardly the first thing about the Catholic Church that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Pentecost is the accepted public revelation of the Church. But the Church doesn't simply poof into being. The Church is Mercy at its core and when the Roman Soldier was drenched in Christ's Blood and and Water, it was Mercy demonstrated and literally expressed. That soldier who pierced Jesus with his spear was a convert to the faith. Jesus, dead on the Cross, still exacting his Mercy on one who mocked and stabbed him. I agree, much about the Church is difficult to consider when viewing it through a human lens. It was said that Longinus suffered from cataracts, which vanished on the spot when they came in contact with Jesus' Blood and Water.

Today's example comes from Michigan... unfortunately.

sick.

it appears he's from one of those "make believe" Christian churches though, not a Catholic one. or Orthodox. Maybe to some Orthodox is make believe as well.

But I'm above all that... they're all make believe to me.

I started this thread over 3 years ago and we're almost to 500 posts. though it has slowed down for some stretches. Judging from the way our country is going, with right-wing Christians feeling empowered to shit on everyone else by this presidential administration, updates will come more frequently for the foreseeable future.

When we hit 1,000 posts, I'm gonna take everyone out for ice cream, even byco and KAWDUP.

So, like, was Peter all of a sudden the Pope but he didn't know it yet?

I like those Christmas movies when the new Santa becomes Santa but he doesn't know it at first.

The best known one is "The Santa Clause" with Tim Allen, of course, but the Hallmark Channel has made a few of them too, my favorite is the one with the guy who was Fraser.

...

It went like this, see: Peter was physically the strongest apostle. After Jesus died, he said "I guess that makes ME the pope now! Give me money and do what I say."

a couple of the other apostles protested, but being the strongest, he put them in head locks and burned them with a cigarette butt until they screamed uncle. after that, they all acknowledged him as Pope, but there was still a lot of grumbling.

John never directly confronted Peter, but all that stuff in the bible about Peter denying Christ, and John being the "beloved" apostle was his passive-aggressive way of getting back at Peter for it.
