Today's example of Christians behaving badly

I just heard on the news Cardinal Law died sometime within the last 24 hours; he died in a hospital in Rome at some point in the day on June 20th local time; it's probably early morning on the 21st there now.

I guess he's gonna get a Vatican funeral and there's a whole fuckin' thing about that.

On NBC news they're showing people saying they're hoping that he's being welcomed to Hell right now.

insitutions always lionize their really shitty dead as a last "fuck you" to everyone they brutalized along the way.

when Dick Cheney dies, he'll probably lie in state for a week, and be buried with full military honors in Arlington (even though he was a draft dodger), instead of having his body weighted down with lead and dumped in the Marianas Trench.

90% of this thread sucks, but doesn't make me feel anything about my religion. This Cardinal Law business hurts. WTF?

Similar type of crap happened here in Los Angeles, under Cardinal Roger Mahoney...pretty big deal, although not as well known, I think, as what happened in Boston.

Mahoney is 80 and just sits around at some church in North Hollywood, according to Wikipedia; it doesn't say which one.

My guess is that Mahoney lives at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church.

It's kind of the "it" church for Catholic celebrities in Hollywood.

Fortunately for good Catholics who want to see celebrities when attending Mass on a visit to Hollywood, none less than The National Catholic Registry had the good grace to list the top places of worship in the Hollywood area for just such an activity.

EDIT: Angelo Stagnaro, apparently the travel editor for the National Catholic Registry, isn't particularly versed in doing his homework before publishing an article. He names Paul Salamunovich as the current chorale director at St. Charles at the time of publication linked to; Paul, whom I knew personally primarily through Paul's long time ties with Faculty at the University Michigan School of Music, had been Departed for a couple so years prior to publication of the article.

90% eh?

I don't think that's accurate, and I am offended you can be so casually dismissive of it .

What part bothers you? I'm not saying most of the behavior in this thread doesn't suck. I just think most of it is done by crappy people that would have done it under some other excuse. If you have a "don't be a bully club" and it grows large enough, at some point, someone is going to bully people into joining and/or following their interpretation of the rules.

Bad Santa don't use coal in the stockings on xmas in this house, he punishes those on his naughty list with an assault rifle:

Ya'll stay classy now...ya heah?

oh, I get it. You weren't saying 90% of the comments themselves suck, just 90% of the people who did the things we posted about.

I'm not 100% sure that that's someone's for real decoration, though.

Maybe it is, and maybe some knucklehead would decorate their house that way...but it also be photo shop.

Here's another, photo dates back to 2014. My Photoshop skills aren't that good, I know this much.

The homeowner might very well also be the gunshop owner, who had that Santa"decoration" created to use for its obvious open-carry promo advertising.

As bone headed as this is...it isn't as crass as actually decorating one's own house that way.

The place is a gun shop, selling guns, it's Christmastime...why wouldn't be Santa be sporting an assault rifle he had proudly just purchased at the Fort Worth Gun Store?

The homeowner might well indeed be the gun shop owner; it appears one Michelle Barth tweeted the photo of Santa at the house "as seen near Dallas..." where it would follow that the owner of FortWorthGun most probably lives.

You guys do know that in ten years, if MichChamp stays there, Texas will turn him into a Bible thumping, pickup with a gun rack driving, confederate flag flying, climate change denying right wing Republican, don't you?

That particular store is closed now. I wouldn't be surprised if the former owner felt like he should still get his money's worth and that's his house. Or maybe he even sold it off when they closed the store, I imagine it would stay in that locale.

I don't disagree at all. I was just showing that it's probably not Photoshop.

I'd watch that sitcom.

Doing a quick search indicated that there are at least a dozen gunshops, not including a half-dozen pawnshops selling weapons and/or ordinance in the Ft Worth area, so the market is pretty well saturated.
