Today's example of Christians behaving badly

For the time being, follow the recommended precautions, but ask yourself, ?When will this end, and who will get to decide that??
This is a reasonable approach and a reasonable question to ask.

It's something to keep in mind, but in the meantime, as a healthy and productive member of society, I have to make 100 decisions a day weighing risk against the harm done by not participating in the economy and in other activities that are important for society. I agree that the media is a problem and we shouldn't react with fear, but it's also not helpful to say that we

are ?in slavery through their fear of death.?

Will we ever be allowed to sing, shout or cheer in public again?

Will those who go about living life normally always be shamed and called selfish and irresponsible?

This alarmism is no better than the media, and I believe it has the effect of motivating people to act in ways that prolong this pandemic and risk health.

"Their" story keeps changing in regards to this topic and it's articles like this that only obfuscate matters.

Why would it be any other way? When people start dropping dead, you don't study for years, get everything right, and then act. You do the best you can with the information you have. I really don't see why people keep raising this point (it is all over facebook). If we can prove that asymptomatic carriers aren't spreaders, that will be fantastic. But it's tough to prove and the media is very guilty of confirmation bias. There are tons of research efforts going on, subject to random probability. You do 100 tests, the answers vary due to random chance and one test has the best result and one test has the worst result and both of those tests are mispeading. The media naturally tends to pick the outliers to report on because they have the most surprising results. But the truth is usually the more boring average value established over many tests.

There's one blood test that can answer a part of this riddle rather easily. It's a pin prick and a 10-minute wait. There are four outcomes: You have COVID with no symptoms, You have COVID with symptoms, you had COVID and you have antibodies, or you have not been infected.

My wife took it last week: She has not been infected. With this kind of baseline, modelling could take some significant shape and direction.

That sounds like a great test. I hadn't heard of it, but when I googled, it sounds like this test they rolled out in Australia at the end of March.

I was under the impression that the blood test (finger prick) test was just an antibody test to see if you have had it / have antibodies. I couldn't find a single source that says a finger prick can detect if you currently have it.

To my knowledge, the only way to find out if you currently have it is with a nose swab, throat swab or test your saliva.

...

This alarmism is no better than the media, and I believe it has the effect of motivating people to act in ways that prolong this pandemic and risk health.

I would say, judging from the sheer number of loaded questions contained in that essay, it's worse than the alarmism in the media.

Just look at the whole 4th paragraph:
What will it take to help people get their courage back? What is the endgame that public officials have in mind? Will there ever be a day when we say, ?Let?s all get back to normal?? Will we always have to wear masks? Will we ever be allowed to sing, shout or cheer in public again? Will crowds ever be allowed to gather in common areas and convention centers? Will those who go about living life normally always be shamed and called selfish and irresponsible?
How is writing like that helpful? This guy is a total vagina.

This line, in the first paragraph, is horrible too:
The medical concerns arising from the pandemic are not without merit, but they are not unprecedented.
He never elaborates on what the "precendent" here is.

We still don't fully understand COVID-19 and its effects on the body, and have a lot of uncertainty around mortality rates, and what causes some people to have more severe reactions to it than others. And we knew even less in February/March when we still had a chance to contain it.

When you're facing uncertain & unknown risks, the proper thing to do is to be overly cautious, not to gamble and assume it will just work out for the best. Being cautious is not fear, it's how intelligent people conduct themselves.

He's just pissy because people are - PRUDENTLY - not engaging in one of the riskier activities to do during a pandemic: going to Church on Sunday. (And probably worse from his perspective, not putting $$$ in the collection baskets...)

Oh no!
A man with Covid-19 went to church in mid-June, then 91 other people got sick, including 53 who were at the service, according to Ohio's governor.

"It spread like wildfire, wildfire. Very, very scary," Gov. MIke De Wine said Tuesday.
CNN - FAKE NEWS! - didn't list this idiot's name or his church. Maybe it was jwlcosu?

More:

"We know that our faith-based leaders want nothing more than to protect those who come to worship."
Hahaha, not Monsignor - "god wants you to get COVID in Church and die" - Pope!

DeWine has the Covid himself now.

I think some congregations have been having outdoor services lately, and I was wondering why they all just didn?t start doing this from the start, or at least the weather became warm enough.

Jerry Falwell Jr.'s (and his wife's) drunken antics and sexcapades pretty much deserve their own thread, but I'll just leave this here for now.

I wonder what Larry Flynt thinks about all this?

He?s thinking the same thing I?m thinking and that everyone else should be thinking too.

Unless you?re providing a link to the nude photos of Becki Falwell that Michael Cohen reportedly made ?disappear,? you?re just wasting everybody?s time with this bullshit.

Fuck.

Seriously?

All, right. I'll see what I can do.

I was going through reddit/news this morning, and there are enough stories of Christians behaving badly to bump this thread by like 20 posts. I just don't have the time.

I think I need to hire an intern.

"Well known" pastor from North Carolina accused of peeing on woman while on flight from Las Vegas to Detroit (link).

They're not identifying the guy yet.

Peeing on people is not very Christian.

Yeah, he's blaming it on a bad reaction to Ambien.

Not sure this is in the category of "bad behavior" unless it is established that there was intent, or the guy was alcohol-tanked out of cognitive function and on some other medication.

Or, the meds didn't actually affect him. If he's lying about that, then that's the bad behavior to cite.

However, I submit that people who claim to be Christian and are "behaving badly" are actually most of us to some or greater degree. Some of us are aware of our sinfulness and are intent on striving to be more holy and virtuous. It's a life-long pursuit. Others are indeed "vipers." Others are simply self-righteous. Still others are blind to their indiscretion. St. Paul's brief letter to the Ephesians explains this clearly.

I believe Gulliver called it "making water" in the book.
