Today's Good Old American mass shooting brought to you by...

Then do something so a maniac can't get the gun or an obstacle that prevents him from getting though. They, as in US of A, haven't clearly done enough.

I agree, I support red flag laws as long as there is due process and the ability for individuals to appeal decisions - I could see these laws being abused pretty easily. And I'm not against raising the age to purchase certain guns. The problem is, we can't have that conversation.

For decades, the strategy from the gun grabbers is to push kitchen sink gun control laws that contain some common sense reforms packaged with the rest of their extreme wish list. When those laws would fail in congress they would complain that we can't even pass common sense gun reforms. It's as if they designed them to fail. If they passed the common sense reforms and hardened schools and it worked, they wouldn't be able to use these tragedies to push for more power/control.

The thing about being buzzed in they could buzz in someone who has guns on them. You see what the airports have or a court house.. They need to look in book bags and stuff.

just don't buzz in people dressed in pinstripe suits carrying a violin case.

The problem is that one side only wants to talk about guns and when the other side pushes back, they say the opposition loves guns more than kids. to the people pushing gun bans, there's not room to talk about hardening schools, age restrictions, mental health screening, etc.

To that point, which I don't disagree with, it's hard to stand on any mental health pedestal when you're cutting funding that could alleviate the problem. I mean, politicians are hypocrites so they will certainly do it but anyone with a brain or conscience will call them out on it.

I don't necessarily agree that the left won't talk about age restrictions or mental health screenings. Haven't they been clamoring for that for some time now? School security, you just get the "if we didn't have guns, we wouldn't need security" quip, in my experience that's a dead end discussion.

I don?t know, Matthew McConaughey seems to be willing to start that conversation.

Maybe we could start by listening to him.

All right?

there's a bill that just passed the house that has some of that in it - not up on the details so can't speak to it. I have heard that it has little to no chance of passing the Senate, which to me means it's just like every other "common sense" gun bill that's come up during my adult life. They have to know by now that strengthening background checks, raising age limits, red flag laws, etc don't stand a chance when packaged with gun bans or other extreme measures.

As for hardening schools, I think that needs to be done no matter what. It's not just active shooters I want kids protected against. Why that's a nonstarter makes absolutely no sense to me. People are living in a fantasy world if they think we can ban guns then everyone can leave their doors unlocked, keys in the car, etc and we'll all just get along with no crime.

All right?

I didn't see his speech but didn't he also call for banning "assault rifles" and limiting magazine sizes?

Lot's of people are willing to start that conversation - we don't need some egomaniacal celebrity to speak for us.

I posted the clip of the speech.

I don?t know that he said anything about limiting magazine sizes. He says nothing about it in the clip I posted.

He did not say anything about banning assault rifles.

He talked about the same thing you talked about in your post I quoted. He talked about better red flag laws, tougher background checks, and potentially raising the legal age to purchase certain types of weapons.

What makes him an ?egomaniacal celebrity?? Because he?s a Hollywood actor who has contemplated pursuing public elected office?

i can't get youtube at work, will have to check it out later.

I thought I saw a clip of him giving a speech in which among other things, he called for banning AR-15s. I don't think it was the White House speech. If I'm not mistaken, it was between the shooting in his hometown and his White House appearance. I haven't seen the whole thing and I haven't seen any of his White House presentation. Maybe it wasn't a speech - could have been an article about tweets or comments he made or maybe I'm attributing comments from another celeb to him - or maybe I'm imagining the whole thing. Any of those is as likely as any of the others.

OK, watch the clip when you can.

What he was saying in the clip is much of the same as you were saying in your post I quoted.

That?s why I associated the two.

I think it takes a pretty big ego to think anyone gives a shit what you think about political or social issues just because you're an athlete, actor, musician, founded Microsoft or made 10s of billions of dollars off of insider trading (Buffett), etc. I could be wrong about this guy, it's more of a blanket statement about celebrities in general.

Who knows?

Maybe we?ll see what else he has to say.

LOL this from a Trump guy.

LOL. except I don't agree with everything Trump says or does. And I've said several times on this board, I don't like him personally, don't think he's a good guy - I do agree with/like a lot of what he did as President, but that had nothing to do with his celebrity status. I didn't vote for him in the primary or general election in 2016 and won't be supporting him in the 2024 primary either - unless Ron DeSantis doesn't run, then I'll have to consider the rest of the field, possibly including Trump. LOL.

But you consider Trump - a failed real estate developer and failed casino mogul, and successful reality TV show host, twice divorced and married to an illegal immigrant "model" - more of a reputable source than actors, athletes, musicians,
Bill Gates or Warren Buffet.

I think that's more where he was going with his comment.

And why do you always get so bent out of shape when people post "LOL"?

Trump isn't my source for any of my opinions, I just happen to agree with him on some things and like a lot of what he did as President. So, if that's where he was going with his comment, he missed the mark - and so did you, but that's not surprising at all.

And I don't get bent out of shape when people post LOL, I just wanted to make sure he knew I was laughing at how much he whiffed with that post.

Edit: by the way, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone claim Melania is an illegal immigrant. Do you have any proof of this? I just looked it up and there's not much other than some lazy, mischaracterizing evidenceless reporting by Vox and Politico. This article seems to indicate it's just partisan hack bs with no proof, but when has that ever stopped you from propagating rumors? Hatred is all the evidence you need to spread lies about someone. Which year did that teach that at your retread law school?

Also, why did you put model in quotes? Is there anything to that or is it just more made up bullshit trying to discredit someone you don't know anything about but hate anyway?

Her situation was... dodgy. Read some of the results when you search "Melania Trump + visa"

She was here working as a model... (or "model" depending on who you want to believe) for several years before getting a green card. If you don't like the term "illegal immigrant" then how about "working and residing in the US illegally?"

she did do some modeling, including nude (but not full frontal) modeling, and you can find the pics pretty easily.

Amazing Republitard voters gave him a pass for all that. Can you imagine what you'd be squawking about Hillary's, or Michelle's characters if they had done some topless photo shoots? I can.
