FYI...I have a house I am selling and ex-MLB pitcher Tommy John will be there to sign autographs during the Open House. It is Sunday, September 20, 12:00 - 2:00 PM.

8418 S. Main St
Evans Mills, NY

He is the significant other of the agent running the Open House.

Wow, Tommy John at your open house. I just have donut holes.

Will his elbow hold up to signing all those autographs?

Ahh, gotcha. I was wondering if you got that analytics job for the Tigers and were heading to MI. :D

LOL...I doubt they pay 6 figures for an analytics job. Additionally, it would be rough moving further away for the grandsons.

Spent about an hour talking with Tommy. A real nice person. He is moving to Palm Springs, CA.

We talked about everything, including what makes a good manager. He stated emphatically that Walter Alston was a horrible manager. He also said the Sparky was a great manager, but he had double standards. One for veterans and one for younger players.

From Tommy..."a manager cannot win you games, but he can lose you games. Either way, it is on the players and their talent." He absolutely agrees that players can change their attitude based on the manager.

That's awesome. Did you ask him about Ausmus?

Not in so many words. Just mentioned that he probably won't be back. And of course a few words on Dumbrowski.

There was a whole gambit of names discussed. From Donald Trump to Dick McAuliffe. He even said that "at least McAuliffe fought me like a man". Apparrently he had to testify at the Jose Offerman hearing and his incident with McAuliffe was brought up.

He started in the "D" league in 1961 and remembers Northrup and Stanley playing against him back then. That was the Decatur, IL where Northrup and Stanley played.

We also talked about Tom Tresh, who is a really close friend of Tommy's. Tresh used to own the KFC in Alma, MI, my home town.

The agent he is seeing, is the widow of Bert Zeldin. One time President of NBC Sports and who passed away in 1998 due to lung cancer. Tommy and Cheryl met during the annual golf tournament in memory of Bert.

I always liked Tommy John. The only player I ever liked on the Mets.. The only ball players I ever talked with, Al Kaline and Mickey Stanley. But I was just a kid so I was like "you're awesome" and just agreed with them all the time..
