Tulloch Wants More Than Jackson

Too much. Forget it. Let him find that somewhere else (doubt he will).

Free agent MLB Stephen Tulloch is reportedly seeking a long-term deal that will top that of Browns MLB D'Qwell Jackson's five-year, $42.5 million contract.
Jackson also landed $19 million in guarantees and bonuses. Tulluch settled for a one-year, $3.2 million contract last summer after misjudging his market. Tulloch is coming off a fine season, finishing 17th in the NFL in tackles, but he plays the wrong position. With a glut of inside linebackers available, NFL teams are slow-playing the market.

nothing says the Lions have to give it to him....he'll test the market and see he might not get the deal he wants and hopefully the Lions have the best deal on the table for him when it comes time.

pretty comparable career numbers with him and Jackson though...and Tully has never missed time with injury compared to D Qwell.

the LB market isnt very good......he will have to wait and see where the LB market goes

Sure, but when you start matching another team's overpay, then you are overpaying.

The MLBs have not been signed because teams are simply waiting for the price to go down. Supply/Demand ratio not working well for the players in this case. Unlike those WRs...

Lofton will get paid...and then it'll be Tulloch up to bat.

Id be totally fine with mays at $5 mil per year instead of Tulloch at $9. Even Hawthorn for that matter.

There needs to be a market for him if he wants that kind of money. So far this year it's the same as last, there's teams rumored to be interested but not much more then that.

My guess is he wont even sniff that kind of money. If he couldn't get paid that money last year, he wont get it this year either. If the Lions are gonna throw that money at a MLB then throw it at Lofton.

I'll take Tulloch over Lofton any day.

Amen.

Stephen Tulloch - LB - Lions

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions still hope to re-sign free agent MLB Stephen Tulloch.
Tulloch has yet to so much as even line up a visit in free agency, so it could be a while before he signs a contract. Reportedly seeking a deal greater than the five-year, $42.5 million extension signed by D'Qwell Jackson last month, Tulloch could be misreading the market for the second time in as many years.

Stephen Tulloch - LB - Lions

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the Lions are making a "strong push" to re-sign free agent Stephen Tulloch.
The Lions have flirted with free agent MLB David Hawthorne, but they'd prefer to have Tulloch back. Tulloch is rumored to be seeking D'Qwell Jackson money. The Lions probably won't pay that -- especially in a virtually untouched and still-rich inside linebacker market -- but they don't want him to get away.

I'm a bit surprised there isn't much of a market for an ILB. Granted some can only play a 4-3 and others are two down guys. But Tulloch probably deserves a decent payday.

Part of it is the top MLB is still on the market in Lofton so Tulloch is gaging his worth based on Jackson's contract which is way off base. The best thing that could have happened for him is someone bit and paid him anything close to jackson. Now that time has passed and Connors contract was cheaper, we'll see what Mays' is but im guessing its not much, Lofton will get a little bit more....and thats about all Tulloch is worth. No one jumped at his crazy demands so now he waits and once the market is set at a lower amount then his demands will need to come back down to earth.

The other part of it is simply...theres not many teams that need him. Most 4-3 teams have a MLB already. NO is active in bringing MLBs in for visits but theyre nuts if they release Vilma. No idea how long his suspension is going to be....but itd be nuts to pay 2 MLBs big money when you can only play 1.

Mays got basically a 1 year deal for 4 mil. Tulloch is a little better than that. Id expect 6 mil per, tops.

Joe Mays - LB - Broncos

MLB Joe Mays' new deal with the Broncos is worth $12 million over three seasons, and includes $4 million guaranteed.
It's essentially a one-year deal. A run-stopping specialist, Mays played 653 snaps in 2011, making 75 tackles. He'll compete for playing time with 2011 third-round pick Nate Irving this season, and won't be a particularly strong option in IDP leagues.

Tulloch >>> Mays
agreed...but the bad news for tulloch is the 2 4-3 MLB deals that have been done so far are cheap (Connor and Mays).

Manny Lawson is out there too...

oh I agree he over values himself....he's looking to see what Lofton gets I think.

Wait him out until he realizes he has overestimated his value, then sign him for a reasonable deal. Once again Mayhew shows his GM savvy.

He deserves a long term deal I would hate if they gave him another 1 or 2 year deal. They need to lock him up for 5 at a manageable rate of around 6 mil a year with around 20-25 guaranteed. Hopefully they can work it out.
