U.S. drone strike kills 30 pine nut farm workers in Afghanistan

JALALABAD, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A U.S. drone strike intended to hit an Islamic State (IS) hideout in Afghanistan killed at least 30 civilians resting after a day?s labor in the fields, officials said on Thursday.

The attack on Wednesday night also injured 40 people after accidentally targeting farmers and laborers who had just finished collecting pine nuts at mountainous Wazir Tangi in eastern Nangarhar province, three Afghan officials told Reuters.

What's the conversion rate nowadays on murdered farm working fathers to future jihadist sons looking for revenge? I imagine 1 to 1 at a minimum.

Pesto is overrated. Toasted pine nuts on top of your pasta is where it's at.

I?m not into pasta these days. I like pesto and grilled chicken and also over buttered chopped grilled vegetables.

Very sad. Frustrating when we miss the real bad guys and hit Civilians.

I bet this was actually done on purpose to create more chaos and violence, and put an end to the discussions about pulling out.

Not convinced.

Trump wants his legacy to be the president who got the U.S. out of Iraq.

If that?s the real reason, the decision to do so was made down the chain of command.

Yes, I wouldn't expect Trump to have anything to do with this.

Trump said in the very beginning he'd given his generals total authorization. I also highly doubt this was a decision that even came remotely close to Trump's desk.

That?s what I?m sayin.?

Maybe Bolton set this all up just before he got fired.

Maybe Bolton getting himself fired was a deke amongst him and the generals.

sort of appropos: on the anniversary of Sept. 11th there was a long thread on twitter that recalled all the insane shit our country and the Bush Administration did after the attacks. Never forget...

I learned that in 2002, along with passing the Authorization of Military Force, to basically give Bush and the military a blank check to wage war, wherever, for whatever reason, congress passed the "Invade the Hague" act, that actually authorized our military to invade the Hague and "liberate" any Americans tried for war crimes in our "War On Terror."

We are the bad guys!! Holy shit. it's crazy to go back and read the indictments of Nazis by American prosecutors during the Nuremburg Trials, and then compare the same standards to Bush, et al.

no wonder they were so worried about the ICC and war crimes... they knew they were committing them by our own definitions of the term.

no one had responded to the thread yet and I so badly wanted to post a semi-joke about how there's nothing worse than not reading the menu closely and seeing pine nuts when your dish arrives. After capers, I don't think there's anything worse than pine nuts in the culinary world. Chopped up in pesto, ok but whole pine nuts in your lasagna or on your pasta - the worst. But I decided against it since it might be thought to be in bad taste, like a kid wearing makeup to look like a athlete or celebrity they admire.

how does killing a bunch of innocent civilians make the case for us to stay in Afghanistan, especially when the commander in chief wants out?

Well, thanks to me and post #2, I made this thread safe for very, very bad taste.

my favorite Italian restaurant here in Houston puts capers in their Caesar salad, and it's quite good.

You should try being more open-minded and willing to try new things, and less of huge, ignorant, close-minded Irish American bigot.

I don't used modifiers. I'm not Irish American, I'm American.

And I've tried capers. How else would I know they suck, dumbass?

You should try being less stupid, then maybe you won't make such an ass of yourself with dumb posts like this one. You'll have to excuse me I don't take culinary advice from a guy who thinks petit filet in a Bordeaux reduction is good steak. Being of Italian heritage doesn't lend you any credibility even when talking about Caesar salad.
