Ukraine Riots

I cant stand Fox News, and I have a hard time seeing how people think its funny, personally. Sometimes I do until I remember that there's shit-tons of morons who lap it up and take it seriously, at which point I get enraged.

Damn, I wish I still had my satire website, The Disassociated Press, up online.

I would be having a field day making up shit about the battle being waged for Liz Wahl's broadcast journalist services amongst CNN, FOX News, MSNBC and Onion News Network.

Or maybe I should say "aboot" the battle out of respect to the B1G Men's Basketball player of the year, Nik Stauskas.

This British source is reporting that they're really going after journalists. Taking away equipment at gunpoint.

Putin still employing KGB tactics when it's in his interest. Would not surprise me if he sends a covert Spetnaz team to make sure Liz Wahl has an "accident" for having the guts to call him out on live Russian sponsored TV.

And yet, y'all get bent out of shape if we call you Ohio.

No, nobody I know gets bent out of shape about being called Ohio. It's viewed as a funny by-product of the rivalry. As long as it's round on the ends, that is.

Give Faux Noise credit for knowing what demograpic butters their bread and pandering to them for ratings and resulting ad $$$ revenue,

Rock stars such as KISS (Stanley and Simmons) Nugent, Cooper, and Hagar were considered to be filthy long haired, drug using,Satan-worshipping hippies by the old guard Rethugs of the 70s-80s, yet all came out of the rightwing closet, once their careers as musicians began to wane.

Of course nowadays, the lines have been blurred, and having long hair does not necessarily identify a male as being anti-war/establishment (nor does shaving one's head bald makes him an Aryan Nation/Nazi skinhead)

Love to see Nugent perform such classic standbys from his back-catalog, such as "Cat Scratch Fever" "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" and "Wango Tango" in front of the stuffed suits @ a CPAC convention someday while swinging from a rope and clad in a loincloth.:ashamed:

Right. Let's do a quick websearch then...and...there we go, the story on the OSU pregame video where they showed Webber's timeout and an unflattering picture of "Pure Michigan" fans.

Ctrl-f, "ohio"

Before the game they showed his assistant coaches pumping his guys up and they didn't hesitate to throw down the let's beat OHIO comments. Troll calling the kettle a riddling bridge dweller if you ask me.

As long as he keeps calling us "Ohio" he can't pretend to be above childish rival trolling

So, disrespecting The Ohio State University on national television by calling them "Ohio" during your pre-game speech is somehow above the fray and a classy move?

It's only fitting to include the upset by Ohio University seeing as how they can only refer to us as Ohio.

Exactly...the reason we put it in there is to show them that there is an actual team named Ohio (that beat their ass) and it is not us so stop effing calling us that.

What a crybaby! You know how to stop us making fun of you? Stop calling us Ohio.

Insists on calling Ohio State "Ohio." Gets mad at silly pregame videos.

What about the use of the word Ohio vs Ohio State?

Typical meatchicken u. They can dish out that ohio shit but they can't stand to be reminded that they suck serious ball sacks

I'm sorry, everyone connected with the University of Michigan, but you CAN NOT get mad when, after incessantly referring to OSU as "Ohio,"

Well I guess that UM coaches cant call us what our name is (THE Ohio State University)

If you don't like the good natured jabbing then stop calling us "Ohio", don't lose to OU.

When he stops the pettiness of calling us "Ohio" maybe we will stop showing him videos to remind him that we are actually not in-fact Ohio.

Fuck you Beilein. Keep calling us Ohio.

That's all from the comments on one story.

he did say "nobody I know" gets bent out of shape at being called ohio.

your web search doesn't disprove his comment.

I used to feel that way too, and I still do because of the effect Fox (and right-wing media had on some family members) (see this thread), but it's not like Fox is making new converts at this point, and it's viewing audience is getting older and dying off so I feel okay laughing at them now.

Give Faux Noise credit for knowing what demograpic butters their bread and pandering to them for ratings and resulting ad $$$ revenue,

...
indeed. This article is a bit long (it's really a long-form essay) on John Ziegler's career, and right-wing talk radio in particular. Helped put things in perspective for me. They're just chasing ratings, and right-wing talk radio is an easy way to do it. You need "talent" like a Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh, a studio, and a couple staffers to crawl the web looking for content that can be spun to inflame or enrage a right-wing audience. In exchange for that, you bring in a few million in ad revenue/month or something like that.

The article surmises that left-wing radio died off, or at least didn't blossom in the same way because lefties, being a bit more cerebral, and racially tolerant, aren't as easy to rile up and get tuned in. You actually need to research a piece... and that takes more time and effort (see, e.g. a typical NPR piece).

The "fair and balanced" part is what makes FOX News such a joke.

It would be bad enough that they have used false video footage a couple times to sensationalize a story, a terrible sin for a true news outlet, but if they just admitted to putting a conservative spin on everything, I would not despise them so much. But they stuck to the "fair and balanced" bullshit for too long.

One of my happiest moments (as pertaining to Fox news) was watching the election night coverage in 2008 when Fox announced Obama was the new president-elect, the mood there would have been lighter if an orphanage burned down and collapsed onto a pet store.

Why would the mood at Fox be any different whether an orphanage burned and collapsed onto a pet store or not?

Umm...b/c it wasn't a Planned Parenthood outreach center burning down and collapsing onto a pet store that wasn't selling illegal exotics from a back stockroom?

Rats!!

I always find it funny how you guys bash fox news but fail to grasp all of the media networks are pushing their own propaganda. Some of you will at least watch multiple channels in the attempt to work through a more complete picture, but the bashing is always about fox news with occassional acknowledgement that msnbc is pretty extreme.

It would be nice if there was actually a neutral news channel, but that is asking too much obviously. Still the unabashed way many of you attack fox news is even more childish than what you complain about the content and personnel of that network.

Just look at the way CNN presented the story about the 12 year old who protested the Sea World floats as an example of their own propaganda.

Why is it whenever someone says something about FOX, the best you right-wingers can come up with is "well MSNBC and stuff are just as bad".

Would it be nice if all the news was 100% spin-free? Sure. But in the meantime stop making excuses for one saying the others do it as well. 2 wrongs don't make a right; didn't your mother teach you anything?

Now notice I'm not white-knighting for CNN or MSNBC and calling you childish for saying bad things about them. Sorry if your FoxFeelings got hurt, maybe O'Reilly will write a book about them.

zyxt9, do I fall into the Fox News basher category because of this quip?

This was a joke; a sort of a parody of the image of Fox portrayed by the folks on this board who dislike Fox.

I would describe myself as Fox News indifferent.

I only initiate posts that include anything about Fox humorously; other than that I pretty much only post about Fox responding to somebody else posting to me about Fox, and normally it's the reply "I don't watch Fox News."

When I was publishing the Disassociated Press I would spoof Fox News like I would spoof everything else.

I wrote a few articles spoofing the feud between the parent companies of Fox and CNN NewsCorp and Time Warner; and the feud between Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner (maybe it was more of a rivalry than a feud).

My favorite was the one in which Time Warner Cable in its channel description had changed the category of Fox News from "News" to "Infomercial."

MSNBC - Far left leaning. They don't try to hide it. They do call out some democrats, but only when it won't hurt the party. Very rare they put conservatives on, but again, they don't hide that they're bias. They don't make up stories...well, not intentionally, but they always have a liberal spin and make a big deal out of things that just aren't. Not at all a good non-politics news channel. Boring.

Fox News - Far right leaning and getting worse. They make up stories completely and their hosts cut off anyone who starts making a good point against their agenda. They say fair and balanced, but nobody believes that. When politics aren't involved, they provide the best national news coverage...by far.

CNN - They tend to lean left, but they do have a lot of conservative guests and co-hosts. Their problem is their employees suck balls. Wolf Blitzer is the biggest doufus on tv. They report things that they don't know to be true and make wild guesses and projections. A good non-politics news source as long as there isn't breaking news. That's when hell breaks loose.

They all suck. I don't really watch anymore unless something is going on in the world and I don't feel like reading.

Tinsel-i remember back before I understood your humor and you managed to get my going pretty good, but now I have a solid enough grasp of your humor and moderate views despite most of your comedic barbs being thrown at Fox, but of course Fox does present the easiest target with their non-stop rhetoric that is over-the-top.

Monster-beautiful post. I think, as another poster mentioned, Fox knows their target audience and who butters their bread, as do the other news networks, to point they just go to extremes to drive ratings. Personally tired of the schtick like you are so I don't watch it but will read articles from Fox and CNN to get a generally moderate opinion from their contrasting points.

The situation in Ukraine is an interesting study in network spin based on who is President. I think by now most of us can grasp how the spin would be different with a Republican in office, no? Imagine Reagan as current President, I'm sure Tinsel could provide some high quality "reports" on current situation from Fox and CNN if Reagan was currently POTUS!!!

I wish there was a relatively more moderate but right leaning channel to better equate with CNN, I would drop Fox in a heartbeat just like how I never watch nor read MSNBC reports due to extreme views. Hopefully a non-Tea Party right leaning channel will air some day, till then we are stuck with Fox for the relative view from Right.

CNN has a lot of graphical boners, especially when it comes to maps. Most likely due to them being set up by interns. A simple google image search for [CNN map blunders] will get you dozens.

Why do you want a news channel to lean at all? I'd be happy if there was a 100% neutral news channel.

What you're basically asking for is a news outlet that leans right, but is not so obvious about it? :hmm:
