Ukraine Riots

Support what troops? U.S Troops in the Ukraine?

There are no troops...and there aren't going to be any. Except for the possible slight change of the position of a warship or two way out to sea, there is going to be zero US military involvement in this event.

I'm not so sure I'm confident that "kicking Russia's ass" in its own neighborhood would exactly be a layup...

All the tough talk posturing and bluster that has come from both the administration AND the GOP has been so much bullshit...

And beyond that...how dangerous and fluid is the situation, really - when the US Secretary of State AND the Russian Foreign Minister are openly hanging out together in Kiev - I mean, really?

Notice how nobody is talking anymore about what a fuck up the ACA is anymore all of a sudden?

Putin and Obama have some kind of deal goin' down...exactly what it is, very few people will ever know...I never will...

...but I do know a grift when I see one...

My point was that the Right should not be attacking Obama at thus time. It is possible, though hopefully will be avoided, that US troops will be sent in at some point.

Not saying no one should question decisions made by the Commander in Chief in these types of situations, but one should assess whether their issue is solely because the President is in the opposing party or is it a legit concern that even people in their own party are seriously raising? If all the complaints are solely one sided, that is a good indicator that it is political BS and has really nothing to do with the actual situation where troops have high potential to be risking their lives. Have some more respect for those brave men and women than to allow political BS be the primary concern. If there is a legit issue, the same party as the president should have the integrity to raise it.

Not saying it will ever be that way, but it should be.

Of course, Future Boy, you can't just walk into a store and buy plutonium. It still takes a massive effort to produce. while I assume that while modern enrichment efforts are more efficient than the Manhattan Project days, setting up shop to enrich uranium/plutonium is still a gargantuan task, impossible to succeed at w/out state sponsorship.

Exactly. We can't use them against small groups hidden in population centers anyway. Regardless of whether or not we have them, I think they're just as motivated to get them. Fortunately, it still requires a large facility to produce the material.

I think we should trick everybody else into giving up their own nukes, except we'd keep ours on the sly.

With respect, very old news.

I know.

Just to make it clear, the old quotes with regard to Romney and even older quotes with regard to Palin...I think they fit into this category.

A WSJ correspondent suggested comparing Putin's recent comments to journalists to the US State Dept's response to get some perspective on our differing perspectives.

Putis's comments are translated here: eng.kremlin.ru/news/6763
and the response is here: www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2014/03/222988.htm

Bullets from Putin's comments:

-"There can only be one assessment: this was an anti-constitutional takeover, an armed seizure of power. Does anyone question this? "

-Yanukovitch signed an agreement with the opposition Feb 21, and the opposition violated that agreement.

-While he doesn't support the unconstitutional takeover, he understand why people wanted dramatic change. They are tired of the corruption, of one thief being replaced by another, and they wanted more than cosmetic change.

-He speaks very negatively of the previous regime, specifying one guy that cheated a Russian billionaire.

-He calls the current Parliament partially legitimate, the President, not legitimate.

-He also says reactionary forces, nationalist and anti-Semitic forces are doing horrible things there.

-Regarding the Russian stock market was jumpy before this happened, it is tied to the US Federal Reserve who recently changed policy and had driving a lot of investment from BRIC states to the US. It has nothing to do with Ukraine and India was hit worse than Russia.

-When asked if he sees Crimea joining Russia, he answered "no", but spoke of self-determination enough that I think he was just trying to say Russia wouldn't take over Crimea.

-He really knows the business of Gazprom. In response to a question about a statement from Gazprom, he says the guy asking the question either misheard or Gazprom misspoke. He includes specific prices in his answer. At 1st, I was surprised by the precision of his price knowledge ($268.50 per 1k cubic m) but then realized, it's being converted...it's not a round number in rubles or euros either though...

-I find this argument to be interesting: with regard to the NATO agreement that included security assurances in exchange for Ukraine's participation in a nuclear non-proliferation treaty, he answered that there are two ways people look at the recent events, an unconstitutional armed seizure of power or a revolution. If it's a revolution, then the agreements made with the displaced authority do not hold. It's kind of in conflict with his somewhat legit view of Parliament.

The US State Dept's response points out 10 things that are wrong with Putin's version of things. I won't make a bulleted list since it is a bulleted list, but of course the US sees the current administration as legit.

haha, yeah, they were sitting on their hands until that rabble-rouser John McCain showed up...

Yeah, but think of what kind of play that probably got in the Russian press.

I never heard Liz Wahl comment on it.

She's pretty hot; I don't know why her doctor boyfriend won't finally just marry the girl, already.

I bet she has a gig at CNN within two weeks.

I don't know what her whole Poo in thing is; she doesn't seem to have a problem pronouncing the "t" sound in any other words I've heard her say...

supposedly, Russia is infiltrating troops into the eastern cities now with no response from Ukraine; they are more "plain clothes" than the "well-armed self defense force" in Crimea though, so this could be something else, but they are supposedly inciting violence in the cities. I haven't seen any confirmation about this.

also, according to one of my wife's former professors, all Russian diplomatic personnel are leaving the country, and returning to Russia. could mean a lot of things.

Shit, Liz might even be hot enough to get a gig at FOX!!

And she's been openly critical of Poo in on live television; so she would have that going for her with those guys over there...

Not true; they love Putin at Fox News. He "wrestles bears" while our own president sits in his "mom jeans."

You must've missed the Daily Show last night.

Well, in that case, MSNBC must also be courting Liz too, after all their guys, President Obama and Hillary, have also been being critical of Poo in...

I always miss the Daily Show. Always miss Fox News too.

Ironically, Slick, the biggest lefty on the board - I don't know where he went off to - claimed that he LOVED Fox News. He loved watching The Five because it had hot chicks on it, and he loved Hannity because he thought the show was a laugh riot.

Fox News is pretty funny sometimes. Even their logo is funny... I laugh just looking at it.

Once you realize they are "Comedy Central for white conservative guys" you can have a laugh riot watching their schtick. Cracks me up when they ham it up with the race-baiting and the fake inner-city accents, canned outrage over their go-to scandals (IRS, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, etc... all of which are getting a bit dated though), then cut to a commercial for gold investments, viagra or cialis, or high-blood pressure or cholesterol medication.

Back in the day, whenever I was somewhere that Fox News was on, it seemed to me to be just a 24 hour long infomercial to promote American Idol.
